Tiny PC

Post by socrates999 »

Anyone have any good ideas for a non-LA-nerfed Tiny creature?

I'm getting back into a fairly high powered game (but not completely broken with the usual tricks discussed around here) and am making a beguiler. I was interested in playing it more like a spy, and it seems like something Tiny could be a good fit.

I don't have all of the MM (just the SRD) to dumpster-dive through, so I figured I'd open up the floor and see if anyone had any good advice.

I could probably buy off a +1 LA and not even notice the experience point hit as I'm entering the game at 8th level.

If there aren't any good choices out there in print, homemade flavors could be helpful too.

Thanks

If your Dm is reasonable, he might allow you to play a Pseudodragon for +0 La. The Draconomicon has a feat called Dragon Cohort which allows you to pick a Dragon cohort and ignore up to +3 of its ecl. Which is exactly the level adjustment of a Pseudodragon. It is silly that you could have a cohort Pseudodragon that is more powerful than if your character was the Pseudodragon. It would be 2 hd (Dragon hd) behind on caster levels though. You might find it worth it.

As an aside, I had a Pseudodragon cohort in a long-running campaign (3.0). They are really fun. You could pull all kinds of shennanigins with a Beguiler Pseudodragon. Telepathy, Flight, sleep poison, base 18 Ac, SR 19, Blindsense, a +4 racial bonus to hide checks. Your hide would have: +4 racial +8 size +2 Dex for a total of +14 better hide check than a normal medium sized human rogue.

I think this fits the bill exactly. If you feel you need an even bigger powerup, I recommend getting Great Flyby Attack (SS). From personal experience, that combined with a Sleep Poison and a Pseudodragons Dex...You'll contribute.

I kind of like the pseudodragon idea. I might try to go with that.

One other possibility was to go make a Tiny version of a warforged. You know, that doesn't suck.

Any thoughts on what the stats for a Tiny warforged would look like?

The pseudodragon works, and I can imagine changing the flavour text to you being a pygmy dragon or something.

Another idea is any number of the small races, and just have a permanent reduce person on you or something.

As for the tiny warforged...

Thanks for the good advice on the pseudodragon.

Talked to the GM and we're going to go with a modified version that doesn't have dragon HD, and gets SR 5+CL rather than 19. With these changes, he's also bumping the ECL down to +1, which I can buy off.

So, I have pseudodragon beguiler that should be pretty cool to play. The MM says that they behave somewhat like housecats, but that seems to painful for words. I'll have to figure out my angle - maybe he's an escaped familiar. Or maybe he's looking for a human familiar to stick it to the man. If I take leadership, I'm definitely going to call my cohort my familiar. . .

I like the escaped familiar idea, it goes well with the Beguiler flavor of charming, subtle manipulations and hiding.

Also, you should totally hijack some poor schmuck and pretend that he is a master wizard while you pull the strings.

I'm glad I could help.

Yes. That is just the type of shenanigans I was thinking of.

You could even get a hat of disguise just for that purpose. Your "Master Wizard" gets killed most encounters...yet somehow he always comes back to life. Recurring enemy Npc's will focus their attention on this "indestructible" Wizard, all the while not knowing the truth.

If you are ever found out, just use the hat yourself. Become the Eagle "Animal Companion" of your new Ranger friend...
