Building: A combat monkey for an oWoD V:tM Game

Post by Judging__Eagle »

Two friends of mine asked me if I wanted to join a V:tM game that they're running and after some obliging, I rescinded.

The premise is that we're going into a walled off area that is made up of LA and is full of mutants, Sabbat and other baddies.

So, pretty much a very heavy combat game.

This the character sheet that I sent one of the STs (I made some mistakes and didn't mark his 5th point in generation and I got feedback on having to remove my Dark Fate flaw).

http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg15 ... wright.jpg[/QUOTE]

I've got enough resources to get me a pair of hatchets (do they swing for str +2 or str +3?) and 'extra' stuff for my character's issued firearms (rifle + pistol or shotgun + pistol; I'm opting for ... I'm not sure, my character is 'techincally' the medic (only useful knowledge that I could think of for a 'combat' campaign) so being in close migth happen often).

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Just be a Follower of Set with a power drill. As long as you don't break eye contact your victim doesn't get to escape. So just take the power drill and start drilling right into the side of their fucking head.

Everyone thinks being a combat munchkin in WoD involves swinging an axe or shooting a gun. It doesn't. Like in D&D, being a combat munchkin involves being a sorcerer who casts Save or Die spells at people such that they die rather than save.

For future reference (once the bug has been fixed) there is a massive bug in the appearance of this thread - reminds me of bbboy :)

Crap.

I wish I could follow Set.

The ST's pretty much have stated that unless you're a member of the Camarilla, or a very loyal Gangrel (Independants are banned as they were either forced into declaring their loyalty of the Camarilla or driven into the "cordoned" off area; Sabbat exist only in this area that we'll be entering.

So, playing the "With X I entrance you!" gambit won't work unless I can be Camarilla and follow Set (the different magic paths are further restricted by having such things as: Your in-clan discipline must be higher than your out of clan discipline).

I'm thinking that geting rid of that freebie-bought point in str and putting it into str, and putting the freebie point bough rank from melee and putting it into firearms and then just run around with 2 9-dice pools worth of attacks per round or... 4 6-dice pools per round if I shoot twice with each handgun per round.

Apparently, feeding will be very dumb to do in this game, since we're going into a place that was cordoned off b/c of a blood-damaging disease, and even the local sabbat vampires are probably all infected. To 'remedy' this, our PCs get... 1 blood pack that gives one blood point per foray into LA; b/c you know how useful one whole blood point can be.

Maybe efficient digestion might be good to get, getting 3 points for every 2 that I consume would help with iron-manning.

Setites are a Camarilla accepted clan and Serpents of the Light are the same bloodline and a faction of the Sabbat. So either way you can take the crazy broken powers.

Two Vampires with Efficient Digestion are a self-sustaining system.

Just sayin'.

I'm just worried that, seeing as both the STs know that I'm a powergamer, they'll take the ban-hammer to what I bring.

Or just single my character out. Now, I'm not positive it will happen, but one of these people seriously told me "your summoned hacksaw's blade snaps" when I used my Tremere path of summoning power to get a hacksaw to try and cut magical shackles. So they're probably willing to screw with me if I get too clever.

I'll be looking at my rulebook again to see how Settites work.

....

Okay, Serpentis is pretty damned awesome, and it's power shows up at 1 dot and grants no save except to supernaturals. It might be less useful in a group versus group fight, but the discipline as a whole looks pretty good.

I think that I've even got a way to explain why there's a settite working for the camarilla.

The text that was sent to the potential players reads as follows:
ChronicLunacy;939642 wrote:Southern California, United States...2008

The Red Plague hit without warning and without mercy. Incubating in the cramped barrios of Los Angeles and then exploding into the city at an alarming rate, the virus spread like the common cold. Those who did not die within the first few weeks became dessicated husks of their former selves, more akin to zombies from popular horror films than real people. They retained their minds to a point, but the blow to their sanities varied as people tried to cope. The infected that didn't commit suicide were subject to nearly constant flu-like symptoms, including vomiting blood and delusions caused by high fever, but for some reason they wouldn't die, not like the lucky ones. The infected were forced to endure a long, horrible, agonizing death before finally succumbing in the end.

The government, fearing widespread contamination, quarantined the entire area surrounding Los Angeles. An impassable wall was constructed stretching from San Buenaventura in the North to Victorville in the East, following the 15 all the way down to Vista and Oceanside in the South. The coastal waters were mined and patrolled from Avalon, an island just to the West were the US set up its quarantine HQ. The people of Los Angeles were left to die, the government hoping that the disease would just burn itself out. Local order rapidly broke down and initial rioting and looting gave way to a tribal system of different gangs and ethnic groups. Murder, rape, and other acts of criminality ran rampant without anything to stop them.

Then Voivode Kasimir came.

The Tzimisce Archbishop of Los Angeles used the opportunity he saw in the chaos of his domain to take control of the human population. Coming out to the city, shattering the Masquerade to pieces and loudly proclaiming that he was a cainite, a vampire, and that through his blood the people could be cured, legions flocked to his banner. He established a sort of feudal dictatorship over the populace with himself as Lord through promises of salvation. Some believed he was the second coming of God, others just thought he was a brilliant scientist, but most didn't care as long as they could be cured. It is now 2058, fifty years after the original outbreak, and Los Angeles is owned by the Sabbat...

You are a member of the Camarilla. You are being sent over the wall to face countless mutated abominations, crazed humans, and other things more horrible to contemplate in the name of your sect, the Traditions, and your very livelihood. Are you up to the challenge?

Alright, people. My co-ST, Pox, and I are looking for a few good kindred for a post-apoc type game of old school Vampire: the Masquerade. Just to let you guys know, it's an all Camarilla game vs. Sabbat AND Independants.

Yeah, if this sounds familiar, it's because we just got back from seeing Doomsday and thought that it would make an amazing setting and idea for a great chronicle. We're going to switch it up and make some original content, but the basic idea is there. So, if you enjoyed the movie, take some serious interest and mull it over. Any comments or questions can be posted here and one or both of us will reply ASAP.

Here are the specifics:
Character Creation will ALL be by the book. If there's any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to ask!

Mechanics:

This will be a combat heavy campaign and it would be best to design your character to at least survive. Your characters are supposed to be highly able and competent militant/tactical operatives and should be treated like soldiers. If the brawn and muscle isn't for you, and you wanted to play, try making a rogue-y or scout-like character to counter-balance the group. Think of it like filling out different angles of a search or seek-and-destroy party.

PCs:

- Camarilla, 8th generation and above ONLY (Meaning 8th-14th gen as long as you buy out the Generation background). Clans Brujah, Gangrel (as long as they are played independent and have a GOOD reason for joining the cause), Malkavian, Nosferatu, Tremere (Primary path HAS to be Path of Blood, no other path can be higher then your primary path. Different paths from Thaumaturgy or Tremere clanbooks will be approved on a case by case basis.), Toreador and Ventrue. Everything from revised Vampire: the Masquerade is what we're using for our books.
- No 5-point disciplines @ creation.
- Specializations must be supported by your backstory.
- Full Backstory is a must.
- Please use provided .pdf character sheet and submit them to Pox or ChronicLunacy. Please also use a different colour for freebies, so we can see where you're putting them.
- Merits that are excluded: Unbondable, True Faith and Lucky. All other merits and flaws are free game as long as you're willing to roleplay them. If you choose something like Dark Fate, we will combine it into the storyline. Just a forewarning.
- Any visual aids that you'd like us to use/see would be happily accepted to get a feel for what you have in mind. :)

NPCs:

- All enemy NPCs will be aligned with Sabbat - OR - Anarchs - OR - Anti-sect
- All friendly NPCs will be aligned with Camarilla. The Camarilla members felt that anti-sect or independent vampires would be too much of a risk for the Masquerade, so did away with or exiled them after the outbreak. They use it as more of an excuse to get all their enemies in one place where they wont have to deal with them.

Depending on player reaction, truces and bonds can be made by enemy/hostile NPCs. It's possible, but not easy. Treat your dealings with each clan like faction reputation. The more you do for one, the less liked you'll be with the others.

Character Sheets:

If it's not obvious, copy the sheet into paint and colour in the dots. Then host them on imageshack or photobucket.

Map of the area:

Also, just a quick note, board/game etiquette applies. No chatspeak, please do your spell checking, try to crank out more then one sentence a post if possible, etc etc.

EDIT: ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE SENT TO ME VIA PM. SHEETS MUST BE KEPT PRIVATE FROM OTHER PLAYERS. FEEL FREE TO TALK ABOUT CONCEPTS ALL YOU LIKE IN THE MAIN THREAD THOUGH.

Take's two to tango though. Gives me an idea though.

Either I get a my background and get a 'retainer' vampire who shares a blood bond with me, and we do the whole "we feed off of each other" shtick; which also let's me build one as melee and one as ranged.
