Unfortunately this is what new games are in general with the exception of updated graphics.
And those are among the stupid crap games.
But the fact of the matter is while there are pretty games that do nothing for game play, there are very few NEW games that somehow do something good with gameplay without being pretty.
You look at the really ground breaking genre defining games and they generally have very good effects for their era.

In my experience they don't, unless their schools force them to.
On the contrary....
Enjoyment depends on the method of experiencing. If in a classroom, then yeah it will suck.
But if you watch a movie or play, and THEN go read the book, it helps greatly (and only read the stories that interest you, not crap like Romeo & Juliet that gets forced down highschooler throats every year.)

I'm with you on Romeo and Juliet. If it's the greatest romantic tragedy to ever be written, then the rest must be sorry. My favorite moment in that play didn't even happen--for an assignment, we had to re-write the ending, and a classmate wrote a quick little farce in which Romeo arrives in time, accidentally splashes the poison into her eyes, and is rushing her to a physician when their horse trips and breaks its neck (and their bodies) and then they're run over--slowly--by a cart.
Romeo and Juliet is further proof that adolescents should be required by law to say I hormone you rather than I love you.
