I kind of like the friendly giants. I'm a fan of big girls.
I had a KotOR 2 question.
So, I've made Atton and Bao-Dur jedi. I've decided that I want to keep them on single blaster/unarmed combat, respectively. I've taken the Force Deflection power for both of them. Do I also have to take the Advance/Master Jedi defense? Or do they not interact in any way?

I've been playing civ4 again and it's still glorious. I set things to random and ended up with the Aztecs and a starting city that produces 21 food in a mere 4 tiles. Spoiler alert: There's been some whipping.

So yeah, WoW classic is bringing back memories. Someone in my guild just unceremoniously booted me from a dungeon group in favor of another guild member. I don't know why I still try to be nice to people...

In the continuing saga of Epic pays developers for temporary exclusives: Steam is now refusing to sell games from any developer who doesn't release on Steam at the same time as they do elsewhere. Steam is not offering money in exchange for this. Small developers are now considering taking the money and just not selling things on Steam, because being on one platform instead of another isn't as big a deal as the money from the exclusive deal.
https://twitter.com/glassbottommeg/stat ... 7111633920
Excellent own goal, Valve (owners of Steam). Instead of "I guess that's good for developers, but I won't go to Epic unless I can't get the game elsewhere" to "I can't get the game elsewhere, time to buy from Epic. And as long as I'm going with Epic for that, I can pick up their deals, which means I probably don't need Steam."
Edit: Especially with Valve's recent decisions to leave bugs unfixed until after people start getting exploited.

Keep in mind that Epic has very specifically made their offer to Indie devs "We'll give you a bunch of money and better rates in exchange for being an Epic exclusive... but that's the only offer you have. If you don't take this deal, you're not on the Epic store."
So they're being shitty about it, because Capitalism demands precisely that. It's just staggering that Valve have moved from "doing literally nothing, as always, because never doing anything about anything is apparently their job" to "being worse".
At this point I just want all of the "conglomerate game store" industry to collapse and everyone having to go back to buying individual games (without accounts and passwords, you just pay for the thing and get the thing), and covering their desktops or Start Menus in launcher icons. While we're at it, we should have a resurgence of "Best 1,000 Shareware and Freeware Games That We Don't Even Really Have the Rights to Sell Here" CDs. Hugo's House of Horrors, Moraffe's World, Mordor (not any of the Mordor games released in the last 20 years or actually involved with the Tolkien IP) and Castle of the Winds for everyone!

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

Could've sworn Castle of the Winds was freeware these days. Certainly it was as freeware in the 2010s and not as shareware in the 1990s that I beat Surtur.
Never did get Mordor working on a post 2010 laptop, but then, only tried once.

I remembered Mordor since the days of those demo disks but couldn't remember anything that would allow me to identify it before discovering one of the sites that aims to archive/list every game ever. Then I found there's at least one youtube account that still, to this day, updates with weekly Mordor and that's awesome. They did say it required a bit of work to get it running on Win10 though.
CotW was actually by Epic so it will probably be available for free via their service before things like shopping carts and customer service are.

CotW was only published by Epic, and the creator made it into freeware in 1998 according to Wikipedia.
I downloaded as abandonware a game called Chaos Overlords which I never really appreciated in its intended form, just stole some of its weirder ideas. I can't do that now because it's just available on GOG and I don't actually value the tiny potential nostalgia value enough to fork over the like a fiver.
I played Mordor as a very young child. I never got the impression it was on some "25 games on a disk" game, and I can remember some shit that was.
And... eeew SidAlpha. Not a good source to use. Not good.

Yep. Pretty good game, and you can grab it at dozens of super-sketchy-looking websites.Omegonthesane wrote:Could've sworn Castle of the Winds was freeware these days. Certainly it was as freeware in the 2010s and not as shareware in the 1990s that I beat Surtur.
I liked the use of setpieces (the giant spider nest, etc.) in an mostly-randomly generated dungeon. I'm seeing less of that today than I would have expected.

I played the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo, here's my thoughts...
- ATB is used for special abilities and magic, acts as a 'stamina bar' that refills over time, basic attacks and dodging do not use it up
- The time slowdown as you select moves is cool and gives you time to set up something like a tech attack... if the game emphasized launching moves and follow up moves and magic bursts they could do something amazing
- Barret feels awesome, he feels like a huge heavy dude bracing into a slow walk firing his gun.
- Cloud's sword doesn't feel great, because Monster Hunter exists
- Not killing a shinra guard in one swipe of a massive sword feels bad to me, but others probably don't mind, I like one hit kills and Monster Hunter greatswords
It's a beyootiful game, nothing looked out of place
I wiffed my Cloud limit break because the robot scorpion jumped to wall crawling mode

Speaking of Remakes, Kalypso is putting out a Remake of Commandos 2 later this year.
Part of their little ad for it mentions improved controls so I'm hoping it has a fully rotatable camera.
Oh and they're doing Praetorians remake too (Some Rome based game that Pyro studios also made. Wasn't my cup of tea)

Nippon-Ichi are here to save the day:
-Disgaea 1 (PS2, PSP, Steam, NDS), I rate it good out of 5
-Disgaea 2 (PS2, PSP, Steam), I rate it perfect out of 5
-Phantom Brave (PS2, Steam?), I rate it okay I guess out of orange
-Makai Kingdom (PS2), I rate it Epsilon out of 5
-Disgaea 3 (PS3 and probably Vita?), I rate it excellent out of bread
-Disgaea 4 (PS3 and... Vita? Switch? Maybe PS4 as well?), I rate it excellent out of salmon
-Disgaea DD2 (PS3), I rate it a solid very good
-Disgaea 5 (PS4 and Switch), I haven't played this but it's probably great
-Soul Nomad & the World Eaters (PS2), I give it okay I guess
Suikoden Tactics (PS2) is pretty good too (and not by N1), if I recall correctly.

It's pretty good but the story is not as good as 4-Disgaea 5 (PS4 and Switch), I haven't played this but it's probably great
It's pretty good. You can watch my video let's play of the game.Suikoden Tactics (PS2) is pretty good too (and not by N1), if I recall correctly.
Also there is for:
PS1:
Vandal Hearts 1 and 2 : pretty solid
Vanguard Bandits: Pretty solid
Saiyuki (Journey to the west the SRPG)
hoshigami ruining blue earth a good game: This game is fucking trash
Tactics Ogre Let Us cling together: I would recommend the PSP version since it is like the enhanced version of this one
Arc the lad collection: this contains Arc the lad 1,2, and 3 they are all pretty good
Eternal Eyes: Average
PS2:
Eternal Poison: A pretty solid Gothic themed game - my let's play
Growslanser Generations: Pretty good but really easily to cheese
Growlanser Heritage of War: Pretty good not as easy to cheese
Front Mission 4: Pretty good, even though the game is long the story ends just when it gets really good.
Chaos Wars: Not really that good, on famous because it's very bad voice acting
Grim Grimoire : More of an RTS it's okay the game system didn't really jell with me and I played it for the the story since it was a Vanillaware game.
La Pucelle: Also by Nippon Ichi Pretty good.
Ring of Red: Like front mission but much slower during making attacks.
Dynasty Tactics 1 and 2: Haven't played these
Sakura Wars So long my love: Haven't played
Stella Deus: Pretty okay
Xbox 360
Operation Darkness: A WW2 SRPG were you have werewolves, a pyrokinetic, a Helsing, a cyborg, and Jack the Ripper in your party in which you fight Nazi zombies, vampires and warlocks. Would recommend
Zoids Assualt: A very limited budget game seems unbalanced

Gladius is also on one of the Playstations, and it allows you to recruit a bear (named Zod) which is one of the strongest things you'll have for most of the game. That alone makes it great.
Don't know how I forgot Vandal Hearts, I enjoyed those. Indeed, it was by buying VH2 that I learned of Suikoden (it had an actual demo disc for Suikoden 2).
Also don't know how I forgot La Pucelle, which really laid the groundwork for a lot of the Disgaea things and is solid in its own right. Also it teaches us that reading holy scriptures is worse for someone's morale than piledriving their head into the ground.

Sundered ate my spare time the last few days. I don't know if I can recommend actively seeking it out in good faith, unless you're *super* into metroidvanias - I don't regret buying it on impulse 4 months ago from Chrono.gg don't get me wrong, but there's definitely better in the genre.

I liked the ability to move titles from one thing to another in Phantom Brave, but the game itself felt too linear and not...Nippon Ichi enough for me.
I've also been playing Untitled Goose Game, which is a hilarious game about trying stupid stuff to see what works (playing soccer with a child, getting upset when he steals the ball, then untying his shoes and chasing him to make him fall. Steal the ball back, then do a victory lap while waving your wings around while honking into a glass bottle.), then eventually breaking down and finishing a level by doing things off your checklist (drag this list of stuff to one place without people stealing your stuff back, lock a lady in her garage).
