OK so Elon Musk, and already obvious Nazi, did the Nazi salute a couple of times at the inauguration.

This is important for a few reasons. But MOSTLY because of how centrist liberal dumb fucks have responded to it.

And that is the WORST THING about him, and the Trump administration, because fuck the actual incoming actions or political views clearly stated, the optics of the salute are equal bad (because liberals cannot acknowledge differences between bad things when they don't want to) AND...

Anyways Trump is going after birthright citizenship, which is weird because I'm pretty sure it's in the constitution, but I'm also pretty sure SCOTUS isn't going to do that whole "checks and balances" thing (and thank goodness nobody packed or dismantled it, our norms are so important!) to stop him since they're basically all monsters. They unanimously ruled to uphold the Tiktok ban, what the fuck else can I say about SCOTUS?

We're in for interesting times in burgerland. Trump seems more motivated to do stuff, but it's literally just two days in and he fucking hates doing stuff that isn't golf. And the last administration was shit too, so will it be all that different? Only time will tell!

My cynicism about all this is that any time someone says "Yeah, he wants to do X, but he can't because Y", I automatically think "Y won't stop him" (he/him meaning not just Trump, but including the whole shitburger maga cult he's a part of). I don't think Trump has an ideology beyond "do stuff that makes Trump richer/more powerful." Right before he became President Trump released a stupid crypto coin for both himself and Melania to steal from his stupid fans. Yes, those have already lost a huge amount of "value." Yes, they have existed for less than a week. Dude just loves to scam and win, he is a simple creature motivated by simple pleasures.

Also, there is a body of research that suggests rich people are consistently less moral than everyone else. And it makes sense that if you're totally disconnected from the needs of normal people you can make monstrous decisions that result in mass death and misery without a care in the world (after all, all your friends and family are doing fine). There is also the economic system we live in where acquiring things is more valuable than doing work, so you are incentivized to do whatever it takes to acquire things as that will let you acquire even more things in a way that just working hard will not. Rich people aren't inherently shitty, but they do live in a system that gives them every incentive to be shitty and are given maximum protection from the predictable results of their shitty decisions.

So uh, probably capitalism? Capitalism is why Trump & Pals are so shitty.

I wouldn't blame it just on Kamala. Lets not forget the 'most electable' (remember that line?) guy that they NEEDED to all line up behind to, in their words, make sure they beat Sanders. The guy who was too old to take office before he was sworn in. The guy who decided that we would commit to doing genocide. The guy who wouldn't step down until he let his brain fall out of his head on stage for everyone to see. The guy who didn't immediately find a way to disqualify what all of them were saying was the GREATEST THREAT TO DEMOCRACY! Letting Trump get back into office was a real bipartisan effort.

All that aside it really feels like Trump was actually ready to win this time around. The last time he won it seems like he just kinda fumbled around for a while before he actually went anywhere. Now they seem aligned and ready to throw everything at the wall to see what sticks. This time the media also seems poised to actually be helpful to Trump and his cronies. We're right at the door and people are arguing that a Nazi salute was not a Nazi salute. Incredible stuff.

To the extent that I talk to "sympathetic liberals" like family and friends I try to convey the same thing I said on here in deleted 2020 election threads. Voting for Biden in 2020 was, of necessity, voting for trump to be president in 2024, because liberals are unwilling to do the things that need to be done to prevent the gop from taking power or to force them to back off their escalating evil.

I think that's also true, but I also think it is more useful then "conclusively removing Kamala harris" so that we can have this same problem after four years of buttigieg or Murphy or whomever in 2028-2032 followed by four more years of some worse republican.

So, the ADL helpfully clarified that we should give Elon the benefit of the doubt, and he's not necessarily doing nazi things (he later went and doubled down on it in case anyone was uncertain). This is useful of them - because you can in fact use the ADL as a barometer of anti-Semitism in the sense of taking the opposite stance to them in all situations. Just take their statement and multiply it by -1 and you probably have the truth in all cases.

Also they're talking about how "intellectuals" (not even "indoctrinated leftist-agenda professors", just "intellectuals") are the enemy, which is a weird thing to say when you're also saying "stop calling us nazis". It's also a general warning of "oh boy, the fascists are ramping up to do crimes against humanity", but if you missed all the previous warnings, I'm not sure this specific one is going to get your attention either.

I guess it's nice that they ruled everybody in the country is female? Also they're looking into letting AI prescribe drugs, and as long as that's as easily gamed as most AI things, that's an actual good thing - gender affirming care, abortion access, actual working pain relief...

Well it has been a whirlwind of a month with this guy in office. Every week there's a new slew of actions (whether intended or not) that seem tailor made to completely break the government. If only there was this much energy any of our last few presidents could've put toward doing actual good things through gratuitous leveraging of their positions. One of the things I didn't have on my bingo card was something like Elon inviting a bunch of the most racist young adults he could find into the treasury.
