As worded, it looks like the logic for Evasion is: (has a shield) OR (whenever a monk rogue could do it). I assume that that's the intention?

Evasion: Not the intention, but it can work that way. It shouldn't really matter unless the Paladin is Fireballed just after getting up or something, or oddly multiclassed.

Mortal Smite: I believe I was half-considering moving the thing where the Paladin gets the ability to finish enemies with Smite to a later level. It might also have been the stunlock I moved to the Holy Avenger, although my changelog says that that was called Righteous Force

My version records on my computer don't have anything with Mortal Smite text in it. Off it goes.

Text trumps table, and I wouldn't have put the "an nth-level" sentence in there for 1st level. Will fix.

I am actually using this in 2025, does anyone know if the spell casting is spontaneous or do you need to memorize the spells?

Since it uses Sorcerer Spells per Day, I take that to mean spontaneous casting from all spells known (which is automatically all spells on their list).

Having 'the right spell' is less of a potential problem since the spell list is heavily focused on combat options.

What problems would you envision if you allowed spontaneous casting? If none, why wouldn't you do that even if it wasn't thr author's intent?

I guess can't evaluate how much "Having 'the right spell' is less of a potential problem since the spell list is heavily focused on combat options." is true, so I generally defer to the intent of the author since he likely understands the class better.

We are level 3 now and I allow spontaneous casting for what that is worth.

I think that’s the intent and don't think it will cause you any trouble at all.

Thanks for responding, tbh I care only about the original authors opinion, I also wanted the general dens opinion.
I will probably make another thread for the monk. I am not sure how to treat the Styles when out of combat.

You may have better luck connecting with the author on The D&D Wiki.

That link will take you to the Tome Paladin page. I'm not an expert in the wiki, but I believe you can add a question and they're likely to see it. I'll try reaching out to them another way to see if they'll weigh in for you.

It has been pointed out to me that the version posted on the D&D Wiki has the Spontaneous Casting tag, indicating that the author did, in fact, intend that it be a Spontaneous Caster. The version history also indicates that the earliest version also had that tag, indicating it was always intended that the class be a spontaneous caster.

Tome Paladin reached level 6 and had the normal iron will in his character sheet, got confused for 7 rounds in combat.
Its the tome one right? So he had slippery mind?

The Tome Paladin is supposed to use the Tome Iron Will Feat.

The wiki lists all Tome Material separately.

With a +6 BAB they would have been able to be stunned instead of dazed, but that does not impact confusion. Since they would also have a +1 BAB, they should have received a second save on round 2; if this had also failed they would have been confused for the full 7 rounds. Both the original save and the second save should have had a +3 bonus (BAB +0 benefit).

Thanks, that's what I thought, I just wanted to confirm it.
Yeah I was talking about slippery mind.
