Bah, I read cow-girl as an anthro type character rather than the 10 gallon hat and spurs type. The former would be more relevant to my interests.

Say, how is Shadow Hearts? I was recommended that series by someone, but I wanted to get a second opinion.

Sorry to disappoint, Count.

As far as games I've played recently:

*Marvel Ultimate Alliance (i.e. Avengers Legends)
*Dawn of War (Original)
*Resident Evil 4

Gelare, the series is fantastic. The first one was great, the second one was way over the top, and the third was downright wacky. I'll second the recommendation.

I've started to actually play Guilty Gear X2 #Reload. Pretty fun, pretty easy to get to an intermediate level at too.

Maxus: Because I'm lazy and find the Pooka to be kind of annoying, I'm still on his chapter. I'm sure I'll eventually get there, but Shadow Hearts takes priority. That and I've been renting out Godhand, if only for all the spanking content :3

Gelare: It's pretty awesome. I played a little bit of the first one and liked it, I started playing the second one and thought it was awesome (bonus points for the military uniforms. Pre-WWII Germany IIRC) - it has a dog as a character, and as you go around you meet other people with pet dogs, and challenge them to dogfights!

But the third one went into crazy land and is awesome. All of them have the Judgement Ring as a mechanic to see if you succeed on things (coloured areas on a circle, a dial whirls around, you have to press X when it's in the right coloured area), but this... they made it an in-world thing. There is a spirit of the ring, who you talk to when you find ring fragments to give her. And she gets embarrassed when talking to the main character.

And there's the ninja who has a cactus-sword, firework-sword and so on.

And a giant cat who is a master of drunken fist, and is working at Purramount Studios to make a martial arts movie. Each time you earn enough cat coins to pay for the next actor in "Five Story Pagoda!", you get to fight them (it's generally an actor/movie reference, including Mister Miyagi). Victory earns you a new technique or a power boost.

Hilda is the best vampire to have ever existed, no exceptions.

There's a native American tribal guy... with twin pistols and gun-fu.

In short, it's awesome.

I dug through my stack of games, and decided to replay Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door.

See, being a conscientious big brother, when my sisters were little, I made sure to buy games that I wouldn't mind playing with them in the room. Rated "Teen" at the highest. So I have a lot of Zelda, and some Mario, and a couple of Sonic games (used to have more, but got rid of most of them).

Anyway, Paper Mario TTYD is impressing me all over again because I'd forgotten how much effort the makers put into the game. I'm genuinely enjoying some parts of the game (like the chapter where Mario has to join a wrestling league and fight his way to the championship to get the jewel on the champion's belt). This is unusual. Most of my games, I've played so many times that I just play through them again for the challenge.

Other than that, I recently traded in some stuff--Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, Most of the Sonic Games, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance...I need to go around to my friends and see who's got what; I know I've got some more games loaned out, but can't remember to whom...
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

When my friend isn't around to play Guilty Gear XX with me, I've been playing a shooter called Painkiller. It didn't impress me at first, but it grew on me -- the level design is great and some of the levels are downright creepy. The one level where you have to go through an old mental asylum while it's dark and raining outside sticks in my mind -- specifically staring out of the possibly-broken window on the top floor of the asylum, into the dark and wet courtyard outside (while there are any number of insane monsters in the background to be shot).

I've been annoyed at all the single-player games. If I'm going to play a single-player game, I'm not going to do it on my television.

We've been playing Eternal Sonata and Dynasty Warriors, though mostly the former.

I still play WoW, but my spouse doesn't. Current-gen MMOs are pretty boring to watch, I'll admit.

Oh, and pointing out that pretty much every character is the same in FF6 is considered a personal attack. To this day.

I wouldn't say they're all the same, but I will say that that's one of the few games I've been unable to get up the drive to finish; I cared about the characters at first, but pretty soon I lost my attachment and hit a point where I was fairly high-level, but all the enemies I could fight to get up higher...Well, they all had Ultima or some crap like that.

Dude, that game is major quality. The original's good stuff too - I'm not entirely sure which I like better. There are lots of points in those games where you just have to burst out laughing. Super Paper Mario, which I've also played, is unfortunately not as good. Translating the Paper Mario formula away from turn-based did not pan out.

Huh? I don't get what you mean. Not that many characters use swords, really, although from what I hear that happens to include most of the top-tier ones. But I will always play Dizzy, personally. Maybe Testament and May from time to time.

As for Painkiller: it has a gun that shoots shuriken and lightning. SHURIKEN AND LIGHTNING!

He's talking about the sword that's found in most guys' pants. Note the XXX in the title.

I don't know any top-tier sword characters in XX #Reload. Unless Robo-Ky's thing counts as a sword.

The lightning part of the Shuriken & Lightning gun is really not that useful :/ it chews through ammo at an extraordinary rate and doesn't even do that much damage (and also has shitty range). I only pull it out when a vehicle needs to be destroyed.

It's a joke from the Zero Punctation review of Painkiller. Yahtzee said the game's all kinds of awesome, not least because it has a gun that shoots shuriken and lightning.

Yeah. "The only way it could be better is if it had tits and was on fire."

But it does sound like the kind of thing you should put as an advertising feature on the box.

Painkiller is really sweet to the point thats its an all time favourite, this makes the crappiness of Painkiller Overdose rather more glaring.

I'm replaying Metroid Prime.

You know, the backlash at the game's controls surprised me. Apparently, not being able to aim and look around at the same time is a major flaw in any first-person game.

Replaying the game, though, is pretty fun. I picked the controls right back up after not playing for a couple of years, and they work for what the game has you do.

I'm also ready to have another go-round with Eternal Darkness.

Pokemon Pearl.

Girlfriend bought it stealthily and snuck it in my jacket while we were in a mall last weekend.
When I found it she gave me the line "No. Shush. You'll never know what I paid for it, just accept the gift."
And later,
"Just promise to trade me your Palkia?" and I said "Sure, anything you want from it."

It's my only DS game for a DS received on Christmas that I didn't even ask for.
Sigh. Guess I must play it.
Chimchar, you fucking flaming Buttmonkey (its name), here we go..

You can probably guess which Pokemon I look forward to finding.

It won't take long to find - this isn't Mewtwo-equivalent. Also, should be easy enough to capture with an Ultra Ball or a Dark Ball. With a bit of luck you can in fact catch it with one of these on the first go, without even attacking.

Or if you don't care about the later ones, you can just chuck a Master Ball at it. But you'll probably want to save that for Uxie the wandering one. FFFFFFFFFFFFFF

If you haven't played La Mulana then you're a double weinie. Or you're marginally sane.

I'm really bad about navigating games that have a lot of puzzles and this game has some of the most fiendish ever designed. I'm sorry to say that I had to resort to a walkthrough for a lot of the parts.

I'll probably never finish it though because I can't get 120,000 on you-know-what. SADNESS. Just as well, though, 'That Area' will fill you with enough hatred, rage, suffering, and woe to make you doubt the existence of Satan.
