I wouldn't say trolling as so much as pointless. Because a) we don't know who smitezilla is [until recently]. b)we don't control anybody here and they will do what they want regardless of what we say. c) Did you report said pm to the WOTC board ORCs? Since it happen on those boards you should handle it there.
You still need to clean your own fucking house. All the more so since really the stuff you are complaining about is gone while the 4E attack dogs with learning disorders team is still defying justice.
I'm going to put these two quotes next to each other and hope you put them together.
I'm well aware there are morons on the WotC boards. Indeed, I know that better than most, because I have my own personal hate brigade. There's not really a whole lot you can do but report their posts and hope that the twentieth time is the charm.
This is the internet. There are morons on EVERY public board.
Incidentally, most of the "4e attack dogs" are so annoyed because people say the same stupid shit over and over again. When you hear someone whine about how horrible it is that PCs can't do everything monsters can do, or that wizards are no longer stronger than fighters, anything which resembles an argument about either of those is likely to set you off into "This guy is either a total moron or a troll; because we are not allowed to say someone is a troll on the WotC boards, we therefore must treat them like a moron."
Its fine not to like 4th edition. But when you whine about something which was an improvement, you're the same as the guys who whined about the elimination of ThAC0 back when 3rd edition came out, and after having ten arguments or so with such people, you end up starting the conversation from "Learn about game design, then come back to us" and it goes downhill from there. Its a bit unfair, but really, its pretty safe to assume someone has made your "point" previously.
Moerover, its very stupid to go onto the boards for the game in order to whine about how the previous version of the game was better. People do this all the time, and it is moronic. There are appropriate and inappropriate ways to complain about such things, and disrupting other forums is not one of them.
This is not to say that 4th edition is flawless; I of all people know that it is imperfect. The purpose is for you to understand that these "4e attack dogs" have reasons for their actions, and they aren't even invalid ones - I'm quite short with most people who come on the forums whining about 4th edition being worse than 3.x because I am simply tired of telling them the same thing for the upteenth time when they could use the search function and read about it.
The reason you don't see people from here that aren't asshats is because you don't come here. It's like saying all americans are asshole tourists because you've only seen asshole tourists in your country and have never gone to America because of it, where you would meet people that aren't asshole tourists.
Uh, yeah, that was meant to be the subtext of that comment. Sorry if that wasn't clear.
Also, having originally been a WotC forum goer and having transferred here myself, I have to say, apparently you guys DON'T know better. For all the assholery and dickery that lives here, it's actually a better forum, in all the time I've been here, vrs all the time I spent at Wizards, I've found this a much better, nicer, more valuable, and more intelligent place. When I needed real feedback on something, I'd post here, not Wizards, because the people at wizards wouldn't know critique or balance if it came up and bit them on the fucking ass and introduced itself.
Oh come now, most people don't know critique or balance, including here. Very few people understand such things. They are complicated, have various intricacies, and involve investing some time into learning about stuff.
I'm an engineer, so I understand design crap. Most people aren't, and really, you shouldn't need to have to understand balance to play D&D. You do need to understand it if you are going to discuss it or make up rules, though, because if you don't you'll probably just make things worse.
Some would argue I'm a bit overzealous, of course, which is fine, and it is perfectly fine to disagree with me about why X, Y, or Z is overpowered or fine. I'm not perfect, obviously, and discussion about these things is how you can learn more about this stuff, and see things from other people's points of view.
The last is an important skill, and one most people really don't have down. But its the best way to understand where they are coming from.
Does it matter if he apologizes? Whatever his first intentions/words were when he first got here I think it can all be buried in the forums just by not posting in this topic. He may have come here actually thinking negative things about the board and now he sees that its not so bad so he's trying to fit in. Can't we all just forget about this whole thing then?
Its fine to call someone out on being a hypocrite, MGuy. Though this is more inconsistant behavior than hypocrisy.
I didn't care when you were bitch whinging, and I didn't post when you were bitch whinging. I do care now that you are trying to get all chummy and nice without apologizing or even admitting fault with your stupid ass trolling our forum for no fucking reason.
When people treat you with civility in response to a potentially inflammatory post, you are likely to behave in a more civil manner in return.
But an apology which only comes because someone screams at you "YOU NEED TO APOLOGIZE!" isn't much of an apology. I think the correct way to apologize isn't to say "I'm sorry" but rather to change the offending behavior.
I'm sorry you are oh so offended by the fact that I'm behaving in a civilized manner. Are you angry because this didn't turn into a trollfest? Because that's really what it sounds like to me.
And I'm not really sorry I made the post. I mean, I probably should have made it more polite than I did, and I'm sorry I offended some people with my negative tone. I'm not sorry I offended you by making an inflammatory first post then replying to the responses in a largely civil manner.
If you want to be a bitch, be a bitch, but if start trying to insert yourself here, and pretend that you did nothing stupid, I'll fucking call you out on your stupidity.
Because, clearly, the best way to get someone to apologize for their behavior is to call them stupid. While this sometimes works, usually it makes them want to apologize all the less, and you're far less likely to get a sincire apology out of them.
People from WotC don't know better than to come here, because if they knew better, they'd come here. No we don't want your stupid shills, but we have nothing against intelligent people who want to have intelligent conversations. Anyone who knows better than to come here either doesn't know better, or is a shill.
Except not really. Let's say I think Bethesda is a crappy company (I do). However, going to their forums is utterly worthless because frankly, they don't care what I think and all I'll do is start a flame war (or, more likely, have my thread deleted by a moderator there). It doesn't matter if I'm right, it isn't likely to be productive.
