'Perforating' a Wall of Iron

Like any iron wall, this wall is subject to rust, perforation, and other natural phenomena.

Huh? What's perforation as a natural phenomenon related to iron?

I guess someone at the WotC has extensive knowledge of corrosion.

Perforation in this case is obviously pitting. For those who don't want to read a tech article, it is a form of galvanic(electrochemical) corrosion that happens when there is an absence of oxygen arround a small area. The small area is then anodic, the surrounding area is kathodic. The resulting el-chem reaction is nasty as it leaves a small pock mark at the surface and a large hole below it.

And there you go. The same answer would be given to you by the Sage.

Hmm, well that seems completely uneccesary to keep track of in D&D, but whatever. Thanks for the answer.

I think it's mentioned for permanent walls of iron
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

I think that they're talking about someone attacking it.

So, just b/c someone casts wall of iron, doesn't mean that the barbarian with the adamantine greatsword can't bash giant holes into it.

Most people think: "iron wall, omg, it's abitrarium and can't be by-passed". When it can have holes punchd in it a fighter with an adamantine weapon.

Wouldn't a steel weapon work for puncturing iron?

Well, anyone with an adamantine weapon; but that's a story element of the spell.

The barbarian that smashes open a 5-foot wide hole to kill the wizard who cast the spell is a combat element of the spell.
