StarCraft BroodWars patch 1.15.2 error tip

Post by JonSetanta »

Hey y'all, I just took 2 hours struggling with patching my SC1: Broodwars game after deciding to get back in to playing.

You see, 2 years ago, my BroodWars disc exploded.
Shattered in to pieces no larger than a half-inch diameter and ruined the CD drive. I hadn't played since.

But recently, with discovery of Daemon Tools Lite (actually, investigated and found when seeking a Black & White no-CD answer so that I could play with my brother and have no DVD-drive lag), just earlier today I got the game running.
My smile was constant as I viewed old maps and save files right up until I tried online play, and the shit hit the fan with Blizzard's new changes.

Oddly, it's not a serious as one might think, what with their stern admonishment against "CD emulators" such as Daemon right there on directions for fixing the patching error (that I got soon after attempting Battlenet)

The problem: downloaded patch 1.15.2 (first update in 2 years! yow!), exact size is 24.6 MB. Any less and you have the wrong one.

Forums were no help, bitchin n bawwwin about their emulation and ISO not working.

Patch says: ERROR: unable to create file 'C:\Starcraft\bnupdate.exe'

... BUT HERE'S THE FUNNY PART!

The fix:Patch is actually looking in C:\StarCraft, NOT C:\Program Files\StarCraft etc.
So, all you gotta do is shut down the ISO-emu such as Daemon (you won't even need it now, since it's not required with 1.15.2!!!), move the StarCraft folder back up to C:\ dir, patch, then move it back.
Seriously.
Far too many better programmers than I can't get this right.

To any of you BW fans, I'll be on U.S. East probably under the name "SiggyPoo" sporadically.
I've also gone as "gothic_dt" in years past, if anyone recognizes. Probably not. Oh well.
It'll be a busy summer/fall this year but add me if you're on.
