One of my most entertaining campaigns to play in, our party paid for an NPC manager to find gigs for us and promote our name and how awesome we were. We went around doing odd jobs like taking out some pirates (and stealing their ships), taking out some ghosts (and stealing their keep that they haunted), setting up a highly publicized squire-contest to try out the 3 new players who were joining the crew for the honor of becoming our leader's squire.
Where we left off, we were gathering information on rival adventuring bands and persons of influence and setting up to go kick their asses... and of course, take their stuff.
