Deserves over 9000 thumbs up!

Preview of things to come

This has always been my shame-filled love. I acknowledged that the show was was something that fit almost all of my required criteria of something I should hate, yet I loved watching it and even worked out some rules for an RPG based on it.

Granted, it's hard for me to rewatch it now, because I remember the plot well enough and it only takes like five minutes of watching to remember the plot of the entire episode in detail.

This is either going to be so bad it is the best MST3K movie ever or so bad it just flat out gives me eye cancer.

That's pretty....something. I can't even get out a good emotion to describe how I feel about this.

THe plot change is interesting. They seem to have done some interesting and cool work with the capsule tech.

Lord Piccolo as played by James marsters ought to be good.

THe rest is pretty...something all right.

It's weird. On the one hand, it's clear that they've gone for a full re-interpretation, rather than even attempting to adapt the original plot. I have no problem with that.

I am annoyed that in the process they seem to have cut out all the original characterization and funny and replaced it with standardized action movie crap.

Bleh, just standard action movie crap, almost certainly not worth the watching.

I was wondering the same...

Also, Master Roshi is supposed to be old and have that beard and a vulgar laugh. A young Roshi just doesn't do it for me.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

I agree that the white dudes don't seem like they fit, but you know what? Assuming this isn't some elaborate hoax, I actually might want to see it.

Because I'm going to be honest, the only reason why I haven't watched very much Dragon Ball Z is because I despise Akira Toriyama's art style. I consider him a talented artist, I just don't care for the aesthetics. Remove that, and I might enjoy it.

They say that.

And yet... I've seen precious little proof of that in action.

OK I admit that I finally decided to look at the trailer. I'm not impressed.

Granted it's probably the same reason why I never watched the remake of Battlestar Galactica. I knew that no one would ever understand the original series and I've been proven right. Dragon Ball is a lot like Star Trek, the whole genre changes so radically with each series that you can't really compare them with each other. (Consider the original series had a pig who could change into a bat for short periods of time and a guy without a nose.) The dragon balls and the eternal dragon were plot devices nothing more. The whole plot of the original series can be summarized in one simple notion; a sickenly good kid's journey and simple quest and the friends he makes along the way; even though some of them started out as enemies.

You know, I know a lot of stupid white guys that like asian martial arts movies that either don't have white dudes in it, or only have a few. (Fearless comes to mind, but the white dudes in that one had a legit plot-related reason to be there.)

Yeah, but that group is going to see the movie anyway. The idea is to try to appeal to the people who wouldn't.

Not saying it'll work, just saying that's the thinking.
