Things that piss me off about Americans.

I like America, but I'm thinking I might pull a Trollman as soon as I have marketable skills and leave, because Americans really piss me off. Here are things Americans say that make me want to eat my own shit in anger:

1. "Why don't you go to ______, I heard they have lots of socialism there har har har!" Whenever I say things like medical care is too expensive, or rich companies have too much power, I get that. And the blank is usually filled in by the worst thing they can think of. When people talk about government not interfering with the economy, we don't say "I heard that they got loads of that in Somalia, why not go there?" We don't say it because it's idiotic.

2. Opposing any war means you are a traitor. Seriously, I get this all the time. Just because I think the war in Iraq is a waste of time and money does not mean that I'm going to defect to any side that invades America. (Won't happen, we're too far away from any credible threat and the people that are a threat know that invasion is just not done anymore except for very good reason, it's easier to fuck over someone with economics than war unless you are significantly stronger than the person you're fighting.) However, if someone DID invade the USA, I'd fight back, launch RPGs, and do anything I could.

3. "I fight to protect American freedom!" Unless you are a WWII vet or a civil rights activist, no you did not. The only threat to American freedom since then has been from within, not without. My Grandfather fought for American freedom. The ACLU is fighting for American freedom. Does that piss you military people off? Then blame your employers for sending you to places that don't really matter, not me for saying it. Killing the messenger has been considered poor form for quite some time now. I'm not sending you places to die, I'm not doing weird experiments on you, I'm not disabling you by using fucking uranium bullets, I'm not slashing your pay and benefits, I'm not redefining what "disabled veteran" is so I don't have to pay you as much.

You seriously should move here. They pay people with your training something around $3-$4 thousand a month, and you rarely come across people like that in daily life.

4. If you openly declare Arab heritage you are a terrorist.
If you openly declare German heritage you are a Nazi (yes, I've had this multiple times in public school from WASPs, and no wonder my German grandmother hid her origin during World War 2...).
Good luck if you are black or Asian in a white-dominant school (keep your head low).
Get out now if you are any non-black ethnicity in an inner city black-dominant school. Hell, even if you are black, I recommend to get the fuck out.
Affirmative action here is a joke; there is no mingled racial diversity, only scattered clumps of ethnicities and social class.

5. Don't get injured unless you are insured. Medical, as with everything here, is commercialized and barely regulated.
Oddly, even for the price tag, the quality of care is still not good and your relative safety is not guaranteed.

It's pretty obvious that Israel needs to choke on their mozza balls. Frank and I had ranted pissily about the subject a while ago, but yet again their own action declares to the world "We're pampered brats, you can't stop us!"
It's biased and lazy (racist? Is Israeli a race? pfff) to state that Israelis in general should stop acting like self-righteous douches, and instead the proper statement is 'Israel needs humility'.
A nation =/= its people. I feel sorry for Israelis, especially the generations growing up in the middle of that bullshit, but the nation itself and anyone leading it should go to hell.

that's a thought, but right now I'm training up some new skills so I never have to work with feces ever again.

Oh man, one of the chief lawyers involved in the suit over the Japanese American Internment issue is a friend of my family. His father had what may have been the most unfortunate name possible to have in the U.S. in 1942. Are you ready for this? It was Fritz Kobayashi.

That was not a good time for him.

Well as you know (thanks to the anti defamation league and friends) pointing out that the Israeli Government is committing murder and genocide is exactly the same as biased hating of all Jews.

And as you also know anti-Semitism is among the worst of all isms because it makes you like a Nazi.

And as we know Nazis were extra super bad because as we must point out their government committed murder and genocide.

So as long as disliking a regime that commits murder and genocide is basically the same as supporting a regime that commits murder and genocide then you are an anti-Semitic Nazi prick.

I've been thinking about various places to live once I get my degree.

Geology is pretty marketable everywhere. Australia sounds nice, especially what with there being a chance for me to stake a claim on some mineral wealth. Canada doesn't sound bad, either, and it's even more loaded and even more unexplored.

At the risk of derailing a most excellent rant by the Count, I'm gonna chip in my two cents on the current Isreali mess:

Israel should have been founded in Pennsylvania, Utah, or California or some other state of the US. It could be another religious community like the Amish, Mormons and Scientologists - while there would be a lot of tabloids trash talk and a occasional lawsuit or hate crime, there would be a fuckload fewer people killed by rockets and tanks.

That didn't happen, and we can't go back and change it. Instead Israel was carved out of a pre-populated area, and was immediately faced with the same problem that has faced every exercise in colonialism since ever - namely how to "get along" with the indigenous people and immediate neighbors. And by "get along", I mean loot their temples in searching for the seven cities of gold, give them blankets infected with smallpox and take away the reservations water rights.

Except, this is the 20th and now the 21st century, not the 18th and 19th, so we all like to pretend that shit like The Black Line just doesn't happen anymore, especially not on our TVs - Milosevich, Janjaweed, and the Tutsis to the contrary. So, Israel cannot solve the problem of their own existence via force without becoming isolated from the rest of the world. And by "rest of the world" I mean "key voting blocs here in the US".

Not the original intent. It just seemed to tie in with being American since 90-something-% of people here go rabid if you publicly challenge the concept that Israel is:

• Holy
• Justified
• Worth billions of tax money to fight an unending war
It's like a mini-America. Maybe that's why I hate both nations.

Meh, I've gotten used to the behavior.

To be honest, this sort of chest-fappery happens in quite a few countries.

I've got family, friends, and others in India who threatened bodily violence to me because I suggested that a peace would be possible if Kashmir was equally divided or at some solution that didn't involve one side getting the entire land mass.

I've had Irish friends who've told me they'd never talk to a Brit if they had to. Of course this was about 6 years ago so I don't know how much this holds water still.

Then again, I've been the victim of physical violence in the States just because I'm brown and thus must be what they call a "towel-head" or any of the other ridiculously idiotic loving nicknames they have.

No one has the entire land mass. Pakistan has everything north of the Line of Actual Control and China owns everything east of the other one.

The problem is that Pakistan keeps throwing genocides of various sizes. See Bajaur, or East Bengal. And it keeps throwing military juntas every few years. Practically speaking, the only reason to want to join Pakistan is so that you can have the freedom to massacre Hindus. If they just wanted a Muslim President they could jolly well live in India until 2007.

The Kashmiri separatists have the ability to run for office. They don't win. These days they don't win so hard that they don't even run candidates. It's like the Naxalites. They have some valid points, and they have some crazy shit, but unless and until they are willing to participate in the democratic process and accept that they are a minority and won't get most of their demands, they are just going to be treated like criminals. And the government will be right to do so.

As for Anti-Israel == Antisemitism, I have no idea what that's about. The Palestinians are also Semites. It's like claiming that you hate black people because you take the Tutsi side against the Hutus or vice versa.

Presumably, they don't know what Semite means. They just associate the term with "Jew" and leave it at that without realising that it covers "Arab" and "Ethiopian" just as well.

That being said, the term "Anti-Semitism" could be argued to apply specifically to Jews, because it was coined in the 1800s and the guy who coined the phrase was referring specifically to them.

Or he could just have been an idiot, and helped other people make that mistake.

Actually, something like 70% of the U.S. population thinks that our policy should be as a neutral peace-negotiator. Somehow, despite this, our political leaders back Israel unconditionally. Fuck, swearing allegiance to Israel is almost a prerequisite for becoming U.S. President.

Count, one of the greatest myths of all time has to do with grass being greener somewhere else. Moving only trades one set of crap with another set of crap. It is possible to move until the set of crap in your area is that set of crap that irritates you the least, but other than that you can't solve your problems by moving. Crap happens!

Idiots arguing will also happen. No one wants to admit that the emperor is naked so they take the policies of their own region and clothe them in elegant material that doesn't exist! OK I admit that 90% was assed but if you bring up the subject in this DC/metro region many people will either silence you or engage in passionate debate as to why "Arabs need to die" or "You're anti-semitic".
