hey guys, new here, but in multiple of frank and K's variants "tomes" ive seen something referring to having "the edge" on an oponent, im not familiar with this rule and was wondering if you could help me out with a definition of what it is and how it works.
any help would be appreciated, im going to try a test game with his tomes in mind, also if its in a core handbook and im just retarded, my bad, im new to the DMing thing.

OK, I indeed could've been clearer. This is RoW, and edge's there (under "Base Attack Bonus and Combat Maneuvers".
