Stephen Colbert to retask hateclub

Post by Heath Robinson »

The top 100 list run by the Time website may bring you some amusement.

Alternative titles
  • Owner of internet cesspool to become winner of internet popularity contest
  • Moot's victory no longer moot
  • Rain? Who the hell is Rain? Top 100 that candidates I know nothing about
  • Recluse to win celebrity popularity contest - New playbooks needed
Face it. Today will be as bad a day as any other.

Rain is a terrible korean actor/singer. All Korean pop culture is crap, but there are a lot of them on the internet and they all speak english...

That list is a good reason for why people on the internet should not be incharge of any decision requiring careful thought and analysis.
The internet gave a voice to the world thus gave definitive proof that the world is mostly full of idiots.

FFS, how could Moot win that? Not even the people on 4chan actually consider him influential. It's worth noting, also, that he dislikes the Anonymous movement, saying that's not what /b/ is about, /b/ is about mindless hate and "me too"-ism. And yet it continues in spite of him.

Because it's funny to have a reclusive internet personality of unknown real identity win a "serious business" poll? It's consistant with a lot of the other things that 4channers do. You just have to assume that their primary intent is to tell people that they're taking things too seriously.

Their most famous acts beyond Project Chanology were the Habbo Hotel invasions, right? I've been there, it's all people taking their online life far too seriously and forming balkanised cliques. When the anonymous posters from /b/ invaded it was a dose of absurdity to demonstrate just how stupid it is to treat these things as important.

I was bored enough to raid habbo a few times. It was pretty pathetic, but not as pathetic as the people getting worked up about it - it killed time and was good for a chuckle until the mods b& every black man, showing their inherent racism.

Because obviously that's why they b& us.

Influental as in "the world wouldn't be the same without him", not as in "ordering people around". So you could say the poll sort of reflects reality, selection bias and ballot stuffing taken into account.

Cat abuse is serious business, though.

Hardly anyone knows about the Habbo raids, and Habbo has the largest population of any MMOG.

I wouldn't even have known about them had I not attended post-mortems by the Habbo devs about how they dealt with the problems.

Encyclopedia Dramatica readers know about the Habbo Hotel and the Habbo Raids.
I'm not sure if you want to click on any of these links if you're in Australia, though.

Ain't illegal to hit the banned sites, just to link to them. Until the bullshit filter is active they aren't blocked either.

PS: Fuck Conroy.

With a rake. An exploding rake.

And wait, is ED actually on the b& list? "They say mean things so let's ban that!"?
