3.5 Eberron Feats

Post by Blicero »

Umm...hi. With this post I depart the shadows from which I've watched this forum for quite some time.

I'm starting an Eberron campaign in the upcoming weeks, and I wanted to make the warforged, shifter, and dragonmarked feats at least somewhat useful; so, I tried to scale-ify them. I'd be delighted if anyone felt like taking a brief look at them.

I don't have the final dragonmarked spell-likes decided yet, as the campaign is only starting at 3rd level.

Dragonmarks
Dragonmarked (Special)
You have this nifty little tattoo thingy that lets you do hardcore stuff.
Special: Dragonmarked scales differently depending on which dragonmark you possess. Detection-Perception; Finding-Gather Information or Perception; Handling-Husbandry; Healing-Survival; Hospitality-Diplomacy; Making-Craft; Passage-Cartography; Scribing-Ciphers; Sentinel-Sense Motive; Shadow-Stealth; Storm-Cartography; Warding-Sense Motive or Craft
0: You gain a +2 feat bonus on your house's skill. If your house has two skills, choose only one.
4: Least Dragonmark: You may use the abilities granted
by the Least Dragonmark feat, but abilities are initially 3/day.
9: Lesser Dragonmark: As before, but least abilities may be
used 6/day.
14: Greater Dragonmark: As before, but least get at will and
lesser get 6/day.
19: Master of the House: Lesser and least are at will, greater
is 6/day; and you get some new ability.

Aberrant Dragonmark
You have a dragonmark, but it’s secretly a member of the dragonmark counterculture and prefers to do its own thing.
Special: This feat scales off a character’s level. Anytime you gain a level, you may swap out a spell-like ability granted by this feat for a new one of the same level.
0: You realize that your dragonmark might make you some
enemies, and you gain a +3 bonus on Bluff checks.
1: Your dragonmark gives you some unique least ability
usable 2/day.
6: Your old ability may be 4/day, and you gain a lesser ability.
11: Your least ability is usable at will, lesser is 4/day, and you
gain a greater power.
16: Your least and lesser abilities may be used at will, greater
becomes usable 4/day, and you gain a new ability.

Warforged

Adamantine Body (Combat)
You are big and made of strong metal.
+0 Your armor bonus becomes that of full plate, with appropriate dex bonus, check penalties, etc.
+1 You gain DR x/adamantine, where x is 1/2 BAB, rounded
down.
+6 You gain a +3 bonus on bull rush and grapple checks and
the light fortification armor ability.
+11 You and all the equipment you wield become immune to
acid and corrosion effects.
+16 You gain total immunity to sneak attacks, critical hits, and
attacks that target a specific body part, and your DR
increases to 2+BAB. Even abilities that would let an enemy overcome immunity to such attacks (like golemstrike) are negated.

Mithril Body (Combat)
You are made of shiny metal.
+0 Your armor bonus becomes +5. Use the ACP and max dex
of a chain shirt.
+1You gain DR 5/critical hits.
+6 As long as you have access to some light source, you may
attempt to blind an opponent as an attack action for 1d4
rounds (Fort Save DC 10+1/2BAB+Con mod negates).
+11 You may ignore the ACP and max dex of your mithril body.
+16 As an immediate action, you may cause any attack that
hits you to slide off your shininess and miss.

Shifter
Shifting Defense (Survival)
You gain a surprising resistance to stabbing whenever you pretend to be an animal.
0: Any natural armor bonuses you have increase by 2 while
shifting.
4: While shifting, you gain DR x/silver, where x is 4+1/2 level.
9: Shifting gives you temporary hp equal to your level plus
your constitution score.
14: While shifting, you cannot be knocked unconscious or
suffer from pain or fear effects.
19: While shifting, any opponent that strikes you must make a
Will save (DC 10+1/2 level+Wis modifier) or become
confused for 1 round.

Adamantine Body:
+1 ability: Given the +16 ability, I'm guessing this is supposed to be 2 + 1/2 BAB?
+6 ability: Warforged already have Light Fortification.

Mithril Body:
+11 ability: Just seems odd - what's the connection here? Maybe eliminate the ACP and Max. Dex instead?

Shifter:
19 ability: This seems crazy powerful. Any TWF-type is likely to fail from a natural 1, even with a good Will save. And then they're useless for probably the whole combat. And it doesn't fit with the other abilities either. Possible replacement - you can't die from HP damage while shifting, and you can delay any effect on you by one round (as the PHB II feat).

I rather like the Dragonmark feats. The RAW ones are too much of a waste of time and feats. Seriously.

Thanks for catching that with the DR, Ice9. I'm thinking I should reduce the DR to just 1/2 BAB, if only to keep from treading on the barbarians' toes.

About the +16 ability (which I'm guessing you were referring to), this ability gives a blanket immunity, not just 25%, as well as immunity to stuff like vorpal or sharpness weapons.

I like that idea for mithril body. I was trying to get that whole "shiny armor of happy brightness" idea across, but it probably deserves its own feat.

Concerning the shifter feat, I was going off of the idea that the moon makes people crazy (but again, that might just deserve a new feat).

Also, I'm removing the favored in house feature for dragonmarked and replacing it with a +2 feat bonus to the appropriate skill. I find the contact thing a bit too unwieldy, and it removes the possibility of house outcasts.

Actually, I meant this one: "+6 You gain a +3 bonus on bull rush and grapple checks and the light fortification armor ability."

Hmm, one round confused, eh? Certainly not as crazy as before - still messes with TWF types quite a lot, but it is a high-level ability ... Not sure about it, but it's at least close.

Is there a list somewhere of what kind of SLAs you intend to hand out? There are a lot of powers that get crazy when they go SLA. And as I recall, some of the base houses actually have those (Major Creation, for example).
