We all know 4E fails, but did you know it fails on Facebook as well? Yes indeed, even there it is total fail with “
Dungeons & Dragons Tiny Adventures” Bring your character (a limited number of options here) up a whole whopping ten levels (although that isn’t known at the start) with magic items and up to two (WOW) potions where each encounter is decided by a single attribute / attack or armor class check roll. Here is some of the random encounters from a level 9 adventure “Echoing Hall.”
The foulspawn berserker's fetid breath drifted over Tzor as it leered down at him from the rock on which it crouched above his head. It stood up and swung its greatsword down on a collision course with your adventurer's head.
Tzor made an Armor Class check with a difficulty of 35 . . . and rolled 35
Dodging, Tzor retaliated with his Moradin's Indestructible Anvil, knocking the berserker off the rock. They tangled for only seconds more before Tzor's holy symbol finished the foulspawn.
Tzor received 156 XP and 27 gold.
Tzor received a Staff of Ultimate Defense.
This one is almost Gygaxian
While exploring the impossibly many rooms of the wizard's tower, Tzor came upon a steel door covered in frost. He turned the rime-coated knob and entered a room where the temperature was well below freezing. Everything was covered in inches of ice. Tables, chairs, chest, bed -- all were frozen solid. The chill started setting into Tzor bones. He turned to leave the room and found the door frozen shut!
Tzor made a Constitution check with a difficulty of 18 . . . and rolled 19
Tzor could withstand the freezing cold for a little while, but if he didn't get out of the room soon, he never would. He used his holy symbol to get some of the ice off the chest. He was hoping to find something inside to aid in his escape, and he did. Amongst the valuables in the chest Tzor found a flask of alchemist's fire. He quickly packed up the other objects and tossed the flask against the door. The flames melted the ice enough to free up the door. Tzor left the frozen room in search of somewhere to warm up.
Tzor took 9 damage.
Tzor received 142 XP and 10 gold.
Tzor received a Staff of Ultimate Defense.
Or how about this one from “Gates of Blizzard Peak”
Finding a well hidden secret door, Tzor entered a passageway that he thought would cut nearly a day off of his travels. Feeling smug, Tzor pressed through a heavy hanging tapestry -- and entered a beholder's den. As the monster turned to focus its eyes, it was clear that Tzor needed some fast talk to get out of this one.
Tzor made a Charisma check with a difficulty of 16 . . . and rolled 19
"Hello, sir, I'm here on behalf of the Nightsurge Society. We're here to ensure a being as magnificent as you is free of troubles and heard your orb was in need of repair" Tzor said as he deftly lifted a nearby orb off the floor. "I'll have it back to you by the end of the week, sir!" Tzor called behind him as he quickly made for the exit, leaving the stunned beholder behind.
Tzor received 120 XP.
Tzor received an Orb of Mental Dominion.
