Eclipse Phase reviews?
Has anyone read/picked up Eclipse Phase? It's a hefty 50 bucks so I'm looking at you guys (the smart ones) to tell me if it's worth the purchase. Adam Jury and I have always clashed, but I'm loving the work electronically.
Is it worth the buy? WHat's the good/bad?

Just a heads up... Your post is pregnant... When you miss that many periods it's just a given.

So apparently after I tweet the review link Eclipse Phases's twitter account posts this:

If we do get a lot of traffic, we might try to be a little less gangbangy and a little more explainy than during the whole "4e sucks" fiasco.
Current pet peeves:
Misuse of "per se". It means "[in] itself", not "precisely". Learn English.
Malformed singular possessives. It's almost always supposed to be 's.

You have a much higher opinion of the typical Twitter user than I do.we might try to be a little less gangbangy and a little more explainy
"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

No, I really don't. Hence my suggestion. Charts and diagrams and small words will be necessary.Josh_Kablack wrote:You have a much higher opinion of the typical Twitter user than I do.

Won't charts and diagrams be too complicated for the average twitter user?NineInchNall wrote:No, I really don't. Hence my suggestion. Charts and diagrams and small words will be necessary.Josh_Kablack wrote:You have a much higher opinion of the typical Twitter user than I do.

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

Actually Frank's review says some good things. But paragraphs about how awesome something don't make for good analysis of game design, as opposed to talking about what doesn't work and how to fix it.Prak_Anima wrote:cool, I take it you read something positive?
So the bad things get the more press, ergo the sad face is bigger.

I think Frank's review is 100% spot on when it comes to the Good/Bad. I remember the days of Frank, I, and a few others arguing on Dumpshock about the Matrix crap. CGL hired a lot of SR writers who couldn't take writing that had a jab or three in it, I doubt these guys will like this review either.
EDIT: Yeah, I read S * P.

Re: Eclipse Phase reviews?
FYI: The core rulebook is now only $15 (as a PDF). Here's a link:iambane wrote:Has anyone read/picked up Eclipse Phase? It was $45, but Catalyst has reduced the price of most all "core" books to $12 and $15 each. EP's rulebook is now (and for the foreseeable future) $15 as a PDF.RiotGearEpsilon wrote:Is 'now' only 15bux? It was always only 15bux.
