Psychoneuroimmunology?

Post by Lago PARANOIA »

I'm not a medical expert. I barely qualify as a layperson. So I am going to defer to you guys.

Is it real, a load of hooey, or something in between?

Your freedom to run/play a game without needing to understand a complex rule system is in direct conflict with my freedom to play a character whose abilities and flaws function as I intended within that ruleset. Your freedom to add and change rules in the middle of the game is in direct conflict with my ability to understand that rules system before I decided whether or not to join your game.

In short, your entire post is dismissive of not merely my intelligence, but my agency. And I don't mean agency as a player within one of your games, I mean my agency as a person. You do not want me to be informed when I make the fundamental decisions of deciding whether to join your game or buying your rules system.

If I'm reading this right it seems the field is based on the idea that your mental state affects your immune system. Why would that be a radical belief? The placebo effect has to originate somewhere.

It's a real thing, but it gets piggy backed on by a bunch of fucking fraudsters like Deepak Chopra.

Any particular reason why you're asking?

I could see why you would be sceptical, given the obvious faith-healing tie-ins -and it's not like the Harold Koenig crowd isn't all over this.

The specials on PBS with quacks selling their books are pissing me off.
