The World of Darkness is something that appeals on many levels. Unfortunately, one of the ways it appeals is by having lots of contradictory stuff in it, which tells people that they are going to get what they want without actually succeeding in delivering it. Thus it is that almost everyone who spends any real time trying to make a World of Darkness game work does so by cutting the game up and making their own. Usually this is done "informally" where the MC just sort of ignores various rules and makes shit up as she goes along. But a non-trivial number of people write their stuff down. And that creates projects like aWoD. Or this guy's.

But when you write something like that, you have to be willing to take things out. The attempt to ram all the various metaplot, and more importantly mechanics together into one pile seems doomed to failure.

The reason that you can't really play Mage and Geist and Werewolf and Vampire together is because the mechanics are clunky and the metaplots go together like icecream and ham. You're not going to get around that problem by putting everything onto the table again. And you're really not getting to the bottom of that problem by mixing in all the Old World of Darkness stuff with all the New World of Darkness stuff. That's just compounding your problem with more spinning plates to balance.

Ultimately, I don't see what he intends to accomplish. He's trying to make a giant nonsensical World of Darkness pile. But we already have two giant nonsensical piles of World of Darkness to choose from.

The solution for oWOD was to say "these are all separate 'worlds'". Masquerade doesn't have garou, mages don't have kindred, etc etc.

That way, you *could* have wildly different cosmologies where you had god-cursed vampires, werewolves gifted by spirituality, and the horror that is consensual reality.

I can't think of a way to have all the cosmologies of *one* of the world of darkness lines all grok together, let alone from both of them.

Exalted may not be good, but it is fun. Just because it's tedious and boorish to inflict Mary Sue stories on other people doesn't make those stories less fun to write.
