That Australian lady in the picture clearly knows no fear, what with walking four dogs right through spider-land and all.

Where I live we get caterpillar webs in trees...but holy shit. Holy fucking shit. That's Battletoads hard.

I used to want to go to Australia some day. Thanks for clearing that up.

Also, my wife said "ew" and kept shuddering, and my mom said "it looks like some sort of horror movie."
Ayep.

p.s. that's 5 dogs, but I bet it was 4 or less by the end of the walk. you can't outrun the venom little greyhounds!

[edit]
p.p.s.
In all seriousness, it sounds like these spiders are just displaced and harmless. Poor little guys just fleeing the flood like everyone else. I'm sure they're just

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

Australia: home to explosive trees that set teddy bears on fire! Small, incontinent teddy bears.

The only solution to the nightmare that is Australia has always been and always will be apocalyptic nuclear hellfire. Koumei had the right idea when she was looking for a flamethrower, except we need to do that to the whole continent. How can any of us sleep until Australia is a lifeless plane of molten glass? No offense to any Australians. You are unfortunate casualties in the war against terrible things that will visit me in my dreams tonight.

Yep. Discworld The Last Continent and annotations:
+ [p. 112] "'Er... there's a great big spider on the toilet seat.'"

Spiders on the toilet are a big problem in Australia -- it's always worth having a good look before you sit. A small number of people per year, apparently, suffer nasty bites from redbacks (a kind of black widow) when sitting on the toilet. A mid-90s UK TV commercial for Carling Black Label (a brand of beer) showed an English tourist in Australia faced with this problem.

There is also a well-known Australian folk song that goes:

There was a redback on the toilet seat
when I was there last night
I didn't see him in the dark
but boy I felt his bite

And now I am in hospital
a sad and sorry plight
I curse the redback spider
on the toilet seat last night
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

Are you suggesting that a bold adventurer could head out into the spider fields, slaughter 10 of them and, assuming they drop their fangs, bring them back to the town hall to collect some gold?

Because I'm jealous of Koumei if that is the case.
