Law=Republican Chaos=Democrat

Okay so,
Law implies honor, trustworthiness, obedience to authority, and reliability. On the downside, lawfulness can include closed-mindedness, reactionary adherence to tradition, judgmentalness, and a lack of adaptability. Those who consciously promote lawfulness say that only lawful behavior creates a society in which people can depend on each other and make the right decisions in full confidence that others will act as they should.

Chaos implies freedom, adaptability, and flexibility. On the downside, chaos can include recklessness, resentment toward legitimate authority, arbitrary actions, and irresponsibility. Those who promote chaotic behavior say that only unfettered personal freedom allows people to express themselves fully and lets society benefit from the potential that its individuals have within them.

Someone who is neutral with respect to law and chaos has a normal respect for authority and feels neither a compulsion to follow rules nor a compulsion to rebel. They are honest but can be tempted into lying or deceiving others if it suits him/her.
Okay so if you read the title you know the thesis of this post. That description is essentially the popular American views on Conservatives and Liberals with some acceptations. So under this metric paladins aren't allowed to support universal health care and must check your insurance information before using his lay hands on ability on you. Which sounds both hilarious and more useful than Chaos and Law as actual moral forces. And yes this does mean that the outer planes are essentially the US Senate and House. And they're just as ineffectual! Nailed it!

Perhaps magic mushrooms? Dropped acid?

It's really simple. The Republicans are the Stupid Party. the Democrats are the Evil Party. Every so often they decide to do something bipartisan, which is hence both Evil and Stupid.

Law/Chaos alignment debates don't count as a drug all on their own?

If democrat/republican is law/chaos, you should probably make socialism/libertarianism good/evil. And I suppose the green party is True Neutral.

Objectivism maps almost directly to what D&D calls Evil.

It's trickier pointless to drag Law and Chaos to the discussion because these terms aren't well defined. That being said, libertarians argue for removing layers of imposed order and regulations and leaving just the bare minimum for a [degenerated] society to exist. If they were arguing about that in good faith, you could say their position is essentially D&D Chaos.

The welfare state is about what D&D calls Good. The strong people (those able to work) make sacrifices to help the weak (retirees, sick people). It's no wonder that this system is anathema to Objectivists.

This thread, as are all alignment threads, is dumb.

I think we need an independent adjudication of that last alignment assessment.

Aside from having your parties completely fucking backwards, this is spot-on.

As of 3e.

"Law" implies everything about Paladins they couldn't fit into "Good".

"Chaos" is a set of antonyms for the words used in "Law".

The Paladin's code adds that you have to be really proactive about your LawfulGoodness. Given that politicians are Rogues (who cannot be Lawful Good), and not Paladins (who must be Lawful Good), this whole argument is specious at best.

Well if we go back to '91 and look at the crazy, old definitions:
Neutrality is the belief that the world is a balance between Law and Chaos.

It is important that neither side get too much power and upset this balance. The individual is important, but so is the group; the two sides must work together.

A Neutral character is most interested in personal survival. Such characters believe in their own wits and abilities rather than luck. They tend to return the treatment they receive from others. Neutral characters will join a party if they think it is in their own best interest, but will not be overly helpful unless there is some sort of profit in it.

Neutral behavior may be considered "good" or "evil" (or neither).

No no, I agree with Schwarzkopf, I'm pretty sure there was an actual Republican/democrat alignment thread at an age of more like 2 years give or take. I tried looking when this first popped up but couldn't find it.

I'd swear something of VERY similar fail flavor was out there though.
