More to the point, they think saying nasty things about people they don't like is inherently funny, regardless of how clever the material is (or isn't).

I'm not sure how far you have to go for it to be considered shoehorning, but if anyone can do it, it would be Steven Fry & Hugh Laurie.

Yes, Mr right-wing, if 47% of Americans don't make an income, how are we to charge them an income tax? PS, there are other taxes, too. Sales taxes, property taxes, state taxes, 'car tax'es, etc. Should old people without income or unemployed people or people employed at home not get to vote because they don't have incomes? What about children who pay sales taxes? Should they get a vote?

Gah.

...this would mean most of my (catholic, conservative) family wouldn't get to vote...

I'm cool with that, actually...

Yeah, my first thought was:

A guy who goes to work gets to vote, but a guy who goes to work, has several children, and buys an energy efficient furnace and windows doesn't get to vote that year.

I'm hoping that guy in the article was just put on the spot, and he said something really fast without thinking, and that he'd recant if he actually thought about it. Am I hoping for too much?

In general? No, you're not hoping for too much. that shit happens, hell, think of how often it happens here...

but when politics are involved? yeah, probably too much.

Right-wingers whinging that the President is showing up on a daily news show... That's hosted exclusively by women.

Not that I like the show, but... Isn't it the conservative members of that show which make it ridiculous?

We-ell, when Rosie O'Donnell was on it, she didn't make it look that sane. I still remember seeing a video where she went on a rant about how the World Trade Center had to have been bombed because "Oh, for the first time ever, fire melted steel?" And she was presented with an engineer's report about the probable heat of the burning jet fuel, the stress the building would have been subjected to upon impact, and the weight of the building itself and several other things which added up to "The buildings didn't need to be bombed" and she said "I still think it was bombed, because fire can't melt steel".

I may be inaccurate on a minor detail or two (it being years since I saw this), but I promise you that the point and gist of it is true.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Are you saying Fox News never carried stuff like that?

You bring up Rosie O'Donnel, and not the lady who doesn't believe in gravity, who is still on the show?

The same with Right-wing politics. They want to find something to attack Obama over. I'll give you a couple of days before someone brings up Rosie O'Donnell or something equally crazy.

Meg Whitman's 'policies'. Note the lack of specifics or when there are specifics, a sense of scale.

Create jobs by spending money. Fire forty thousand state workers, refuse to hire more or pay them prevailing wages. Cut taxes. Cut regulations. Fire the lawyers - despite being the 7th largest economy in the world, apparently the state needs less lawyers (who are already paid less, individually, btw) at its call than the largest single private lawfirm in the country. Build more water containment systems with funds she's going to...

The forty thousand number comes from the note that the state government has added that many jobs in the last economic boom while the state population grew by more than three million. Honestly, the state doesn't employ enough people. From parks that went empty of rangers and toll-takers in the 2000 recession to the DMV lowering its wait-time by 50% in the last four years, we still need more state employees.

I have no idea what the plan really is. There's billions of spending in her plan and billions of new costs but only millions of dollars in savings and zero dollars in revenue.

Take her crime section - she wants to increase the number of people in jail, while spending less on each. The state already lost a suit because the jails we do have are overcrowded and we're shipping them off to other states and losing them. How do you jail more people but spend less money doing it, when we already have overcrowded facilities?

AUGH. It's mind-bending.

By not feeding them, clearly. Then, when they die, you shovel them out and the next load of new convicts can resume the slave labour.

Those same overwhelming majorities would oppose a Roman Catholic cathedral on the same site.
First off, they aren't building a cathedral. It's a new general-purpose building with more space, including more space devoted to a Muslim community center, replacing the current building, which contains a Muslim community center.

Second, what?

I appreciated Daily Show last night. "what's that you are standing in front of? Oh the Muslim Mosque that is four blocks away from ground zero and predates the world trade center."

Also the part where he showed that people protest Mosques all around the country, so it's not just because it is near ground zero, it's because they hate religious freedom for religions that are not them.

My husband's going to be on The Dylan Ratigan Show tomorrow. I guess we'll see how much gibberish he can utter.
