Modern day news relevant to sci fi RPG world building

Post by OgreBattle »

Stuff like this:
http://www.3ders.org/articles/20130807- ... inter.html

China's got a 3D printer that can create living tissue. It takes about an hour to make a small ear. The tissue needs time to solidify though. How would this technology affect your ficitonal world of 2070?

What other cool news items have there been? Cybernetics, gene splicing, laser guns and stuff?

Play the game, not the rules.

There probably will be a difference between vat grown body parts and printed parts. And vat-grown will probably also use printed scaffolding to start the growth process.

If the technology improves, it may end up looking more like The Fifth Element, where you go into a pod and the computer/machinery "prints" a new graft onto you.

If you were going to do a transhuman sci-fi RPG, there's a LOT of places you could go with that.

That probably does not work for most organs, but may work great for structural bits.

One casting every six seconds at CL9 gives you a bit more than 40 liters per second, which is comparable to the flow rates of some small, but serious, rocket engines. Six items running at full blast through a well-engineered engine will put you, and something like 50 tons of cargo, into space. Alternatively, if you thrust sideways, you will briefly be a fireball screaming across the sky at mach 14 before you melt from atmospheric friction.

This has some pretty big "Shadowrun future" "Distopia" tags written all over it. All they need to do now is buy Detroit, and they're all set.

If it were true I suppose. It reads like a paranoid's delusion.

That link is.. so over the top lying it's hillarious. It's obviously a hatchet piece :)

That being said, it's definitely good fodder for a shadowrun game.
