[The Great Fence Builder Speaks] I believe I culled out at least most of the "Why the edition you like SUCKS!" derailment. Keep it that way. [/TGFBS] ahahahaha are you serious? 99% of this thread is people making thinly veiled or not veiled at all attacks on 4e. most of the time there's n...

I wasn't speaking in combat terms there - a 4E fighter may have more options than a 3E fighter (though, most of those 4E's fighters options are ridiculously identical, in both flavor and mechanics). there is no may involved there and the 4e Fighter's options are pretty different, but feel free to t...

He provides examples from 4e's text, and then discusses them. He did not pull the quotes out of thin air, they are from either current text or prerelease sample text. yeah, sorry, his negative interpretations of 4e from prerelease stuff really doesn't count as a source. No, he explains what an abst...

I'll make you a deal Fectin and Plebian. If you read the following I will take your viewpoint seriously. It's one of the gentlest but most striking critiques of modern D&D design flaws I have ever read. Give it a try http://www.thealexandrian.net/creations/misc/dissociated-mechanics.html Plus t...

Oh! Well, if flavor text counts, I'd guess you like 2E best. All those descriptions of the somatic com since he was complaining that there's no visual indicator it seemed pretty relevant; the suggestion on how the power can be used includes a visual indicator! also flavor text is one of the best pa...

The same I expect from every power: that when you use it, people can look and say "Oh look, he used a power there!" For all any observer can tell, you punched the enemy and then everyone else also happened to hit.. I just have to dredge this up because you were talking about a power that ...

unless your party is eternally able to focus all their attacks on a single monster it's just moderately useful at best. Oh, you mean like with solo monsters? mmm, yes, monsters that crop up once every dozen or so encounters at most are definitely a good baseline for determining the use of an at-wil...

also if you need anything to tell you how to roleplay you probably shouldn't be roleplaying to begin with. seriously, what is wrong with a book saying, "roleplay your traits," because that's basically golden information right there; you can't codify how a trait will be RPed without reduci...

AS is situationally useful for setting up a nova round. but the more accurate your party already is the less it will benefit them, and unless your party is eternally able to focus all their attacks on a single monster it's just moderately useful at best. basically Frank and Doom are pretty huge idio...

every game is MTP which is why the use of it as a negative is so amusing coming from you people As a negative? How so? MTP is the default for all RPGs. We fall back on it again and again. But, as has been pointed out numerous times, MTP sucks at resolving player conflicts and at being fair. The who...

This was one of the reasons why I thought I saw a glimmer of hope when 4E was introduced (although it was pittfully easy to destroy that glimmer). When you started having abilities that acted like a King's Castle, where you could literally put yourself between an enemy and the person who is in dang...

Yeah, AD&D was all d20+mods vs target number. I loved how bending bars was a d20-based roll and bashing doors didn't involve a d6 in any way, and thiefly wall-climbing also fit this unified model. ...oh, wait, I'm wrong; and Plebian's an idiot. wicked sick burn, broseph! oh wait we were talking...

Battles against dozens of enemies come up around once and adventure in AD&D. I remember playing Dragon Mountain with several hundred monsters running around....AD&D is not a great system for such fights, but in small-ish doses, it works. 4e can do it to, but only with almost all minions. se...

4e doesn't remove the pseudo-vancian casting mechanic, though. Wizards still get a pool of spells that they can memorize X number of depending on level. just as valid a use of the term 'vancian' as 3e's, though not having played 1e the actual closer interpretation of vancian casting is neat, though ...

Silly me, I had him on ignore. Thanks PR for making me read his shit. (Was that a backhanded compliment? I'm not sure.) I know we have had a number of threads on where everything went "wrong." While I am not going to suggest that the original "Advanced" version of D&D was th...
