It's plastered all over Tarkin's sig though

I hate it when people make arguments that blatantly contradict the rules.

tarkin wrote:P.S. You don't know how to play efreeti, particularly with wishes. When they wish, it costs them XP, among other things. Wishes also count as a high value service, which can NOT be purchased two for 1 from them. As a DM I would laugh at your silly attempt to game a wish, and have the Efreeti cheat you blatantly. 1. They are evil and 2. They can not benefit from their own wishes, even if the human makes it.

I went to that thread only to find Tarkin is one of two people I have on my ignore list for years now :D

So then some chump makes a Fighter X write up, as a joke, and yet I look at it...

...and I'm underwhelmed.

I can't tell you how much I cringe when seeing a link to a fighter fix. I fully expect to see "Now he gets three more feats and his class level as bonus damage! The fightaur will rule now!"

His class level as bonus damage? No way you'd ever see that on the boards. Maybe like half his class level.

I think one of the 'amazing great make the fighter work' feats linked to from that thread was 1/4 level in damage with a specific kind of weapon.

Half the morons think that giving him 2 more skill points would fix all the problems.

I fucking hate those people.

I think the damage thing is more egregious. At least the skill thing sort of kind of nudges towards the right direction.

I can see a fighter ambushed by a rogue saying, "Man, I wish I had some better skills." What I can't see is a fighter stuck in a forcecage saying, "Man, I wish I did like 8 more damage with a successful attack. That would really help me in contributing."

I would be like I needed to cut my steak but only had a spoon and so people kept handing me spoons. There would come a point I'd probably say something like, "Enough with the god damn spoons! I'm done with my soup! That's not the problem! I don't care if spoons can be useful sometimes! This is the main course, and not one of you even handed me a friggin' spork I could sort of tear at this steak with!"

Not that the fellow who looks proud at producing a spork is a real winner, but he seems not quite as bad.

I don't know what you're talking about. Where I come, the spoons are sharper than the knifes.

Heh, I thought the first response was going to be an extension of that analogy to folk who say something like, "Don't give that man a knife! That would be overpowered! Just look at the size of the spoons he has. Certainly he cannot ask for more!"

What about the people who claim that the spoon can, in fact, cut the steak?

How did I know that it was going to be a link to the Fighter X? *sigh* Not even bloody funny, for chrissake, just kind of grating.

As slow as we think the designers are, the average WotC board dweller is even slower.

Most of them are still used to being wizards who toss nothing but fireballs and lightning bolts. I mean... what do these people do? Kick any wizard PC who casts a web spell out of the group entirely?

It really is like looking back onto the dark ages.

Some of these people still don't see how broken the polymorph mechanics are. I mean... even the designers got that one... eventually.

Yes. If you use (not even abuse, just use) Glitterdust, Grease, Web, Color Spray, Deep Slumber, etc, they will ask you, point-blank, to go back to the Magic Missiles, Acid Arrows, and Fireballs, because you are performing the in-game equivalent of riding a bike through the special olympics.

Of course, we all know that this game comes with rocket cars, but they can't handle the bicycles.

I've actually seen a DM voice a complaint at the "cheesy/not-simple" spells that the Sorcerer and Druid (me) of the party were using.

Here are the spells we used that session:

  • thunderous roar
  • kelpstrand
  • charm monster
  • chained charm monster
  • caltrops
  • wall of smoke
  • column of ice
  • murderous mist
  • boreal wind
  • call avalanche

Oh, yeah. And the Ranger used wind wall, I believe. That was pretty cheesy, too.

I didn't even try casting blood snow on the snow field created by call avalanche. :ohwell:

I honestly could never even get through reading that one, so I have no idea if it's decent or suck.
