You see my signature? That ultimately is because of the rape thread.

After calling out RC (and I think Bigode and one other guy) for some rather nasty rape apologist posts they called Strawman on me. I very thoroughly embarrassed them with nothing but a series of direct quotes of RCs own truly hilariously sexist, racist, and rape apologist words, they SCREAMED Strawman, somehow got the thread vanished, and follow me around the forums to this day declaring Strawman on everything I ever post as some sort of revenge/retroactive self justification fantasy they have.

Eventually I put it into my signature after RC started ranting "Strawman" at me in a thread for daring to have basically said what amounted to "anything at all".

And while I think he probably WAS "around" (just), since Kaelik apparently wasn't the third guy (and I can't go check and probably couldn't find it if it even was still there) that is the end of off topic ye'olde story time.

We had this discussion, the thread vanished due to software malfunction - remember, we had some other threads get crosswired at the same time.

PS - Zinegata, that is right, though there's no evidence that the US helped create the '65 to current government, although we did get involved again later. I would ascribe it to money rather than politics as to bringing Marcos to power. But the US didn't sit in on the writing of that government's constitution, unlike the prior ones. Which was my point, how poorly made it was.

And you are right that Asian Americans do better do to education. But that doesn't mean they didn't protest for equal treatment and the ending of some very anti-asian laws. I happen to live in California - a state that has on its maps a long list of cities that vanished because towns run or mostly populated with asian-american settlers were burned down or stolen in various ways. It's not a pretty history.

Oh, no. PL said
Yet another reason why covering that one up is the one big thing the local powers that be have ever done that I actually take some offense at.

Was that the same week that one chick propositioned Frank in the middle of a thread?

WTF week was this? Apparently I missed the best week in tgd history. (Okay, it's probably not as good as some weeks, but still.)

I always assumed you deleted it or banished away from the public eye as some sort of basic censorship thing because having people actively arguing rape apology on the board might be problematic for you.

I have some PMs between me and you dating from shortly after the incident which seemed to vaguely imply that you removed it as part of a delayed crack down after being away for a while, and where I raised with you the issue that I was disappointed at the apparent removal and you certainly didn't tell me otherwise.

And anyway, removal or "loss" that annoyed me because it lets people like Mean Liar, Bigode and RC, to this day basically lie about that thread and walk around here talking like they have any credibility at all.

Looking at my PMs I'm guessing some time around mid 2008. But I only have stuff referring to it some time presumably "not long after" rather than "during" so it's only a guess.

Well, fbmf does tend to prune and rename, he has stated a preference not to actually delete, which I prefer.

If I don't know my own mistakes, what right do I have to pick at other's?

You're sure you weren't around for this? I vaguely recall witnessing that rape-thread unfolding, though I might have been lurking at the time, and I thought you were around long before I joined.

I don't remember said thread at all. But I did spend years at Humble Opinion before reading MPSIMS. I was in Humble Opinion on the old board, but didn't start MPS until a while after this one.

That said, I vaguely recall PL doing his Strawman thing on RC, but that was the second thread, not the first one. I don't remember any rape thread.

Yeah, I only remember the second (or third or eighteenth) time of "Strawman!", in turn leading to the disclaimer. I think that one might even have been D&D-related.

Yeah, I recall the thread that lead to PL's disclaimer as well. Maybe I'm conflating the two threads together somehow. The thing that stands out in my mind about the rape-thread was sitting here thinking to myself, "Seriously? Is this really the position these people are staking out to defend?"

I have to admit though, that I don't even remember what the offensive argument even was at this point. Then again, I have a hard time holding grudges or staying angry IRL, so internet offenses are about as permanent as last week's morning fog.

My credibility was squandered in an entirely different affair from misremembering some of your more egregious manglings of American English internet communication.

If that thread ever resurfaces I'll happily revisit it for the purposes of seeing how what I remember and what actually transpired match up, and apologizing if necessary. Unlike most assholes here, I do that on occasion, perhaps because unlike everyone on this site I am occasionally wrong. :p

Until then, it remains in my mind only as the moment when you totally misinterpreted RC2, took quotes out of context and then belittled them with a baffling confidence.

EDIT.

Fuck me sideways. This is a thread intended to ask a single question of a single user. Why was it not a PM?

Argh!
Current pet peeves:
Misuse of "per se". It means "[in] itself", not "precisely". Learn English.
Malformed singular possessives. It's almost always supposed to be 's.

Because:

1) fbmf cares about his reputation, so he wants those accusations in the public sphere to be addressed in the public sphere.

2) Because this thread consists of a bunch of posts moved from the big News and Crying thread into a different thread that is geared towards the topic of old hijinks, so to speak.

[The Great Fence Builder Speaks]
Because he rather publically called me out as having abused my mod powers to protect or shield a poster who said something embarrassing or stupid, and I wanted to publically set the record straight that I did no such thing.

Although a lot of water has flowed under many bridges since then, this board owes its founding in part to the fact that there was a perception on another board that the mods used their powers to shield certain posters from disciplinary action after a four alarm flame war erupted. I have tried hard to remain impartial even when it went against all of my instincts. I don't pull it off 100%, but I assure that I do my best.

I do not specifically remember the thread you're speaking of, and apparently old PMs get erased when space is needed because my Inbox does not go back that far. If a thread got erased, it is because it was too far gone to be even remotely salvageable OR I was getting legal-themed nasty grams warning me of a liability. I do not specifically remember that in this case, but it has happened in the past.

FWIW, I have looked through the threads forever banished to the Mod Forum and I have nothing from that time period that relates to the topic. Maybe, as Crissa suggests, it was a softward/hardware issue, but I don't remember that in relation to this thread either.

I am sorry you feel that you were mistreated and/or that others received preferential treatment, but (although I can not cite the thread or PMs in question for reasons explained above), I find it unlikely that that was the case.

Hehe.
