I've been running a sort of weird tome game using a hybrid of this skills system and the old one for a while now, where certain skills are merged, you buy skills in (roughly) the same way as by the PHB, and you can make a number of those skills into tome of prowess skills according to the tome of pr...

I'm inclined to vote the second one. Since I've been playing without class skills as an assumption I didn't even notice concentration wasn't a class skill, and I already have this character basically made; it's nothing that's particularly overpowered by tome standards, I don't think; it basically ge...

So I'm gearing up to quite potentially play a Mystic Ninja Etc., but I'm a little bothered by how its mystic arts fall on levels that aren't divisible by five so she winds up actually being behind the regular ninja when it comes to gaining the new and shiny versions of the mystic arts that come up o...

There's a good reason tgd doesn't hand out bans; conflict is the catalyst for just about all worthwhile progression. While they eventually got banal as hell, shadzar and Elennsar at least provided an easy way of maintaining a dialectic with The Wrong, a constant reminder of what not to do and how to...

TGD vernacular, particularly with the advent of the Soldier class, seems to have defined a "standard attack" as an attack made as a standard action; I don't think this terminology existed before.

This should replace the version that's in the current PDF post-haste; the main problem that I have always had with the other Koumei Ninja has been, well, that it's less a "Ninja" and more "Koumei's Ninja". Which is to say, not really what most people think of when they think of a...

Bards are viable for a while though (was it 12th where they go obsolete?) so you can probably make do with a core Bard in the earlier levels easily. Lies, spellcasters do basically everything they do better all the way through; the only unique ability they get, which isn't just something a wizard c...

Re: Possible ideas

I recommend checking this class out. It has the idea of "choose different stunts to pull off", which might be part of the flavor you're looking for, but it's not maneuver-based; it makes use of feats. Maybe one could engineer a fighter v2 with access to a list of tome feats, changeable li...

The cool thing about Pascal's Wager is that it was actually debunked centuries before its existence by Marcus Aurelius: ‘Live a good life. I think some of us already do that anyway <_< I mostly lurk here, but I'd like to mention that most gods in my setting are within levels (or CRs if you insist) 16-23 for exactly this reason. There's not much need for epic play rules anyway, and I've been thinking in cases to be so liberal as to all...

the problem in a nutshell is that the class features that these classes have aren't any good in the first place; giving them the same class features in a shorter span of levels just gives them irrelevant abilities faster than they otherwise would.

Alright, that's understandable. It just makes more sense, as far as I'm concerned, to give flat increases to attack and damage rather than screwing with STR, and giving temporary HP and a + to fortitude saves instead of CON. As for per-day stuff, it should do just for now. I just really hate per-day...

Even though you're adding in 0-9 spellcasting for this guy, you still want his actual class features to be USEFUL. I recommend making a rage mechanic that isn't clunky as heck, has a flavourful, interesting activation mechanic rather than the boring and weird per-day thing, and bumping DR up to one ...

I've been trying to put together a bit of a "magitech" D&D setting myself, where it's basically fantasy with higher tech-levels, sort of industrial revolution-ish. Deities are almost just magical, immortalized politicians in a way, some being a bit more "deific" than others; ...

At a number of levels, this thing has better sphere access than the Conduit and Warlock. On top of its own abilities. That's kinda weird. Also, I can't imagine why you'd want to use the Spellcard CFs to give your shots standard elemental damage ever. Force is pretty much always a better choice.

Should Dragon Breath really scale with Dragon level? I'd personally think it would be better if it scaled with character level, for multiclassing purposes.
