We could totally turn this in a game around here. Roll 2d20 and then make a class based on the name.

So I just got Ghost Witch and Rage Blade.
How about a design challenge where we make a level 1-10 class (at least) for the random name we get.
I'm in.

Rules are:

Roll 2d20. Refer to the chart above or one you make yourself and post here.

For example, here's my Monstrous version made by ripping off Koumei's table above.

Write up something. Can be Base Class or Prestige Class. If you can't do 10 levels, do 5 or 3.

I just got Sword Scion. So I guess I'll use this space to lead off with something about an ancestral weapon.
---------------------------------------------
Sword Scion
"By Grandpa's Hammer!"

Every so often, an adventurer is lucky enough to inherit or find, by some sort of means, a magical weapon that just suits them. They stick with the weapon, and it's good to them.

Starting Age: As Barbarian

d10
Good BAB
Good Saves

4 + Int skill points

1 Ancestral Weapon, Favorite Weapon
2 Hands of the Forebearers
3 Great Weapon
4 Memories of Before
5 Undying Steel

Ancestral Weapon: The Sword Scion has a really great, really old martial or exotic weapon that's important to them. It's a magic weapon, with an enhancement bonus of +1/3 the Scion's character level.

Favorite Weapon: The Scion's Ancestral Weapon is also their favorite weapon--it's comfortable for them, and reassuring to hold and use. They get the Combat School feat with this weapon (even if it's a bow or other ranged weapon), and a morale bonus to saves equal 1/2 their class level (round up).

Hands of the Forebearers: The Sword Scion feel like they aren't alone when they hold the weapon--because they aren't. Anyone or anything capable of seeing ethereal beings or ghosts can can clearly see the past owners of the swords joining their hands with yours, as a sort of spiritual imprint. The weapon is a Ghost Touch weapon and the Scion gets Mettle.

Great Weapon: The Scion's ancestral weapon displays a power hitherto unknown. Perhaps it's Holy, or maybe it's a Bane against a certain monster. It's not like these things come with an instruction manual, so the Scion can hardly be blamed for not finding out about it until now. The Ancestral Weapon gains a Minor magic property. At character level 8, the Ancestral Weapon manifests a Moderate Property. At level 12, it displays a Major Property. Alteratively, the Ancestral Weapon turns out to be really accommodating to magical upgrades, and will either be upgraded, or maybe gain thematic powers from slaying certain monsters or being present at a magical site, where it absorbs something of the power into itself.

Memories of Before: The Sword Scion frequently has vivid dreams about past events and people associated with the weapon. In addition to providing feelings of deja vu, the Scion finds himself instinctively using techniques like he's always known them. The Scion gains a bonus [Combat] feat, preferably involving weapon attacks, rather than something like Great Fortitude.

Undying Steel: The Ancestral weapon can't be permanently destroyed or lost, by some quirk of fate. If sundered, it can be reforged from the pieces. If the pieces are lost, they turn back up. The sword is immune to effects that would totally destroy it, like Disintegrate or a Rust Monster or a Sphere of Annihilation (in the later case, even if it's sucked into the Sphere, it exits a wormhole elsewhere and gets found some while later). As an upside, the sword ignores DR.
-----------------------
I'm not 100% happy, but if you're going to focus a class around "I inherited an old weapon!" this isn't too bad, I think. It's something of a base class/paragon class, I guess.

And yeah, I know the Samurai's Ancestral Weapon is automatically magic and ghost touch. At level 1 or 2, it doesn't make too much of a difference there.

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

I can see 2 angles for Mage Priest. But Mystic Theurges and Dark Sun Templar have both already been done.

...Dark Dancer. I could work with that. If I flip-flopped the results (turning 5, 20 into 20, 5), it'd give the hilarious Blunt Mage, possibly a telekinesis specialist. But let's go with Dark Dancer... tomorrow!

And I really need to save those "random x generator" things next time I see them on 4chan. They can actually be interesting.

Feel free to reroll if it's something that already exists.

On the other hand, attempting to fix the Hexblade seems reasonable.

The original Hexblade is a dog with fleas.

Shadow Hunter. That's better.

(Or Life Crawler, also better)

I'll have to see what I can come up with.

And yeah, that's part of why I didn't just reroll automatically, I'm kind of considering what to do to fix the Hexblade.

Oh so true.

A bunch of powers relating to debuffs and inflicting misfortune on the enemies? I'll think about it.

The tome Witch and Eldritch Knight together make a decent "hexblade".

Sun Sage
If only I could be so grossly incandescent

Warrior-scholars who study the mystical properties of the sun and positive energy, Sun Sages follow a path that eventually allows them to draw power and allies from the Archon celestials.
ImageImage
Starting Age: As Wizard
Starting Equipment: 8d4x10gp
Alignment: Many Sun Sages are Lawful Good, and most stay within 2 steps of that alignment.

Hit Die: d8
Base Attack Bonus: +1/level
Good Saving Throws: Fortitude, Reflex, Will
Skill Points: 6+Int
Class Skills: Balance, Climb, Craft, Diplomacy, Disguise, Gather Information, Handle Animal, Hide, Intimidate, Jump, Knowledge (Any), Linguistics, Listen, Move Silently, Perform, Profession, Ride, Search, Spot, Survival, Swim, Tumble.
Level:Abilities:
1:Stellar Brilliance (Light at will), Sun Magic, Channel Energy 1d6
2:Solar Javelin, Radiant Strike +1d6
3:Stellar Brilliance (Daylight at will), Channel Energy 2d6
4:Wings of Light (Feather Fall at will), Radiant Strike +2d6
5:Celestial Familiar, Channel Energy 3d6
6:Sunlight Spear (3/day), Wings of Light (Fly 3/day), Radiant Strike +3d6
7:Stellar Menace, Channel Energy 4d6
8:Stellar Brilliance (Sunbeam 3/day), Wings of Light (Overland Flight at will), Radiant Strike +4d6
9:Celestial Cohort, Channel Energy 5d6
10:Luminous Transformation, Radiant Strike +5d6

Class Feature

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A Sun Sage is proficient with all simple and martial weapons. Sun Sages are also proficient with light and medium armor, as well as all shields.

Stellar Brilliance (Sp): As an Immediate Action, the Sun Sage may cause her body and worn equipment to emanate magical light for a time. This can duplicate several spell effects, depending on her level.

Sun Magic (Ex): A Sun Sage is considered to have every spell with the Light or Healing Descriptor on her spell list for the purpose of activating magic items or entering Prestige Classes. Spell-Like Abilities granted by the Sun Sage class are the equivalent level of the spell they duplicate, or if they do not duplicate a specific spell, they are the equivalent of a spell equal to half the class level at which they are gained (maximum 9th level). All save DCs from Sun Sage abilities are Charisma-based.

Channel Energy (Su): A Sun Sage channels positive energy like a good or neutral Pathfinder Cleric. If they have levels in Cleric or something else that grants this ability, these stack. As long as they have levels in Sun Sage, they channel positive energy regardless of alignment or deity worshiped.

Radiant Strike (Su): When the Sun Sage attacks someone that is in Bright Light or brighter, her strikes deal additional dice of lightning damage based her class level. Targets struck by Solar Javelins always count as being in Bright Light for the purposes of this ability.

Solar Javelin (Su): Fifty times per day, the Sun Sage may conjure a glowing javelin in her hand as a free action. The javelin disappears after striking or target or a minute passes, whichever comes first. The weapon deals Light damage instead of piercing, and has an Enhancement bonus of +1 for every three character levels.

Wings of Light (Su): With an act of will, the Sun Sage may temporarily grow wings of solid light. They merge with any equipment worn, as easy to use in armor as when wearing nothing at all. This can duplicate several spell effects, depending on her level. Feather Fall may be used as an Immediate action, but other Wings of Light abilities take a full-round action.

Celestial Familiar (Ex): At 5th level, the Sun Sage gains a Lantern Archon that shares her alignment as a familiar. Treat her character level as her Wizard level for the purposes of familiar benefits. Instead of normal penalties, the Sun Sage takes 1 point of unavoidable damage that bypasses temporary HP per character level if her familiar is destroyed. The Sun Sage may perform a ritual that takes one hour and 100 GP of materials to revive her familiar if it is destroyed and transport it to her, even if she is on a different plane.

Sunlight Spear (Sp):
As a full-round action, the Sun Sage may fire a crackling beam of solar energies forward in a line. This functions as a Lightning Bolt spell with a caster level equal to character level, but half the damage comes from divine energy and ignores any resistances. It may be used 3 times per day.

Stellar Menace (Su):
While emanating light with Stellar Brilliance, the Sun Sage may produce an Aura of Menace as if they were an Archon. The save DC is charisma-based, and increases by 2 if the enemy have special vulnerability to light.

Celestial Cohort (Ex):
At 9th level, the Sun Sage is accompanied on her adventures by a loyal Legion Archon that shares her alignment. Whenever she gains a character level, it gains another HD. The Sun Sage may perform a ritual that takes one hour and 1000 GP of materials to revive her Celestial Cohort if it is destroyed and transport it to her, even if she is on a different plane. The ritual doesn't work in areas where planar travel or teleportation are prevented.

Luminous Transformation (Su): At 10th level, the Sun Sage is so attuned to the power of the sun and archons that they may temporarily transform into an archon of 1 CR less than them. This takes a full round, and replaces their whole character sheet with the monster manual entry for the archon in question (the archon has the Sun Sage's alignment and memories). It lasts one minute per character level, and can be used once per day. If the archon is slain, the Sun Sage appears in its place with 0 hit points. Otherwise, they reappear exactly as they were when they initiated the ability.

Looks a little Dark Souls there.

Edited the Sun Sage:
- first of 2 pictures
- use limits for several SLAs.
- some more detail for Luminous Transformation
- maybe something else minor, I don't remember.

Possible abilities to add versatility if the Sun Sage isn't good enough by itself:
- turn into light to teleport in a line or become incorporeal
- directly summon angels, bicycle riding cohort not included
- scrying / clairvoyance on stuff directly illuminated by the sun
- radiate natural sunlight to mess with wraiths and shadow demons
- suppress illusion effects, maybe get outright dispelling
Illusions are associated with light, but don't fit thematically with the class.

EDIT: Oh, and of course:
- Jolly Cooperation: improves Aid Another checks

I rolled Bone Crawler.

The only thing I can think of for that is a PrC for a Fiendish Monsterous Centipede who magically replaces his limbs with bones taken from his endoskeletal victims in order to increase his stats and eventually become undead. I think that niche is kind of narrow.
