Well, Catholic newspapers are running with it and criticizing the church for its handling of the case, so I'd assume that it's legit.

I'll admit that I was with Kaelik and Frank, having put Iran at a distant fourth on my suspect list, behind Boeing, bizarre conspiracy theories involving literally anyone else in the region, and someone on the plane having fed a mogwai. That is certainly not the first fuck-up of its kind. It's not even the first such fuck-up of the past few years, thanks to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But it is by far the most embarrassingly inexplicable.

The best guess as to what actually happened is that when flight 752's departure was delayed by an hour, someone forgot to notify the nearby garrison about the changes to the flight schedule. So flight 752 climbs high enough to suddenly show up on their radar (no, they aren't watching airplanes take off from the runway, that is not how it works), the personnel manning the system have been instructed to expect clear skies at that location in that time window, and at that point their training says they have seconds to make a decision before they lose the signature again (the old Soviet systems they're probably using are really not up to the task of taking on U.S. stealth technology) and/or die.

Yeah. I know a lot of press has highlighted the fact that the peeps on the plane were of other nationality, but most of them also held Iranian citizenship. While I didn't consider "mistake" as an explanation, I never thought Iran would deliberately blow up a civilian plane full of its own people. That just seems - to me, at least - as ludicrous as Hillary running a child sex trafficking ring out of the basement of a pizza parlor that has no basement.

Did see that about an hour before the shoot down, fox was running some opinion dude who was shouting at the screen that the US was on it's way with B52s and that the mullahs had better find a cave to hide in RIGHT NOW because bombs and shit.

Which, like, it's broadcast around the world, Iran heard that, and probably told their air defense guys, and shit got messed up along the way and they shot down a passenger plane that's about the size of a B52 at night.

Which is fucking terrible military discipline, that shit should not happen, but totally does, the US did the same to an Iranian airliner not all that many years ago. People get spooked they forget protocol and just do stupid shit.

Which is a bit like the Russian thing where they said there was another plane that might've shot their one down, but really, they were saying they tried to shoot down a military plane and hit the wrong one.

Meanwhile, the Fascists in the german government have put into law the ability to use things like ip adresses, usernames and yes even passwords of people.
In their fight against online hate speech crimes.
And also, for bureaucrats who try to snoop out such evil doers as unemployed doing little favors for money so they can dock their benefits.
And also for infringing on intellectual property . . so yes . .
Things that were yesterday not even allowed for capital crimes such as terrorism are now allowed for monetary reasons.
And also, new "crimes" to go along with these abilities . . with the wording making such things as the rallying to demonstrate a punishable offence . .

And they are working on a real name duty for online communities and in the same sentence factually banning people under 16 from them.

Apparently there was a big leak of Labour Party insider communications. It's still relatively early and I haven't been able to find comprehensive summations at this time, but they show a bunch of horrific stuff, like Labour Staffers getting really upset that Labour was doing well in 2017 because they hated Corbyn so much and saying during the election results pouring in basically begging not to win, and they also show many members of the new Labour leadership now that the New Labour Blairites who support Murdoch are back in charge were involved in explicit plans to sabotage Corbyns attempt to address anti-semitism in the party so that it could be used politically against him.

Boy can't imagine what it would be like to have a centrist faction of the party deliberately sabotaging the left whenever possible.

EDIT: Apparently some admissions were made of directing funds away from important marginals to co-conspirators to make sure they kept their seats.
